Has anyone done this before?? I was just thinking tonight...if there was a thick walled shotgun. Say a Mossberg 590A1...could one thread the outside to 22x75 (saiga external threads) and then also thread the insides for chokes? That would be a cool setup...you could use a Saiga brake and also have chokes inside to tighten the pattern. Has it been done? Can it be done? Would it remove too much metal possibly?

Related question...even if you did that it would only be weak without the brake and choke in right? Screwed on/in objects made of steel should stiffen everything up wouldn't it?

Just something I was thinking of and thought I would see what you guys thought

I like the way you think. I'd like to do something like this with my Hatsan. I really like the look of the brake on it and I'd hate to loose it.

That's what kinda gave me the idea. I was thinking of threading my hatsan for chokes. The flash hider thing is all external anyways! Looks like it could be done maybe. Might get a little thin. But I mean most of the pressure happens near the chamber right? Haha

That'd be 22 x 7.5. You wouldn't be able to thread any shotgun barrel and have enough steel to thread both sides. However, there is no reason you couldn't thread the inside for a choke and have the brake attached to the choke.
Pressure isn't the issue. Barrel harmonics is.

I think it could be done with a Hatsan.
The external threads are located close to the end of the muzzle.
If you get it threaded for Rem chokes (smartest choice IMO) then those choke's threads are located about 3" deeper down the barrel, effectively bypassing the location of the external threads.

You would still have to bore it wider to accommodate the choke thickness tho right? Here is a another idea...someone should make extended rem chokes but instead of the muzzle brake being built in, like this choke:

they should just have a 22x75 threaded piece. So you can have your choke and then put a muzzle brake on without even changing anything on your barrel (assuming it is threaded for rem choke to begin with)

I guess you're right, to accommodate the chokes cylinder the whole section of the barrel leading down to the threads would require a thickness reduction.

Now that is a great idea!

So I measured the barrel threads today. The major diameter measured 21.54mm with a pitch of .75 which suggests to me that we already have an M22 x.75 thread. Now I gotta see if they are available in Canada (insert evil grin here).
