Has anyone done this? Currently the options available to me up here aren’t quite what I was hoping for. I have an SP-01 Shadow, and prefer the options that I see down in the US for slide milling.

What is required for me to get my slide down to that side of the border, and then back up? Don’t want to deal with sending down the firearm in 1 piece as that seems to be a much greater pain. I am going state side a couple of times in the next couple of months, would I be able to bring my slide down with me without issue in a checked bag?

One in-Canada option to consider, if you have not already.

I checked with Black Box customs for Shadow 1 slide milling. Prices are okay, all considered. Can be milled for Holosun 407 directly but 507 and likewise require a pretty pricey plate. If I remember correctly it is a Trijicon plate and costs some 200-300 CAD.

Check with them if they can mill for CZ custom plate or other systems available in US. That may be a reasonable solution, to get benefits of plates available in US.

Personally, I have dropped the idea of milling for now.

I haven’t flown since pre-covid times but I would definitely not want to have a handgun slide in my carry on when going through the security check. I’d really look to finding some “Made in Canada” solutions instead, or else look for a different gun.

EDIT: I originally hadn’t thought about the possible ITAR issues with you bringing the slide back. That could also possibly land you in a world of hurt.
