What is the process for the interview, when applying for non restricted PAL.

Someone tried to tell me that they will show up at my door.

That seems unlikely to me.

I'm 26, living in a rented house with my GF. I've had no mental health issues and never had a criminal charge brought against me.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Welcome BM.
I just finished the process and finally received my RPAL.
As I was going through it I learned that if you are applying for a restricted PAL, you and your references will be interviewed. I was interviewed and so were they.
However, if you are applying for a PAL, it is unlikely that you or they will be interviewed.

That said, there's no guarantee that won't change now that the long gun registry is gone. They may tighten up. (but I doubt it).

That's my $0.02.

I just finished the interview for my PAL a week ago, they ask you basically the same questions that are on your application, job loss, drug addiction and things like that. After I asked if it would speed things up to have my references call in as well, they said it would. This was just for my non restricted PAL so I presume they are calling references for everyone now.

No in-person interview. Can you imagine the work load that would entail? It is a phone call. Just listen carefully, answer truthfully, no smart ass and it should be cut and dried. Should have zero problems. When I did my RPAL they called one reference but never called my ex-gf who was listed as previous relationship.

I never had even a phone call before they issued my PAL, the also didn't phone either of my references. A friend of mine also just applied, his has been issued, he did not receive a call, and I was one of his references and I never received a call either.

If you are in Ontario, expect your references and yourself to be interviewed. I just heard from my wife's co-worker that the CFO dropped by her house to do an interview regarding her female friend's PAL application.

When I got my NR-PAL not a soul was contacted on my application, and it was even processed and approved 5 days prior to the "cooling off" period expiring... I have been called though for a few friends NR-PAL's as i was their reference... so really its a crap-shoot i think

I recieved my RPAL today

:D I looked in the mail today and a surprise awaited. My RPAL arrived.
My interview was about 2 weeks ago. They called my references same day. Never called my wife. Start to finish 3 months. The lady was very nice as well.
Now.... what to buy????:ar15:

Buy it all. Try it all. Keep it all or what you like the best, if you cannot afford to keep it all :)

On the interview part, I was not even aware that there is one. I got my PAL some time ago, but have friends, who got theirs in the last year or two. Never heard anyone calling or interviewing anyone...

I have a question about the process, if a person is unemployed...does that affect the PAL process? I don't see why a job, or the lack of one should affect an application for a firearm license.

I think it is more of a state of mind/at risk question, job loss can be pretty stressful. Unless your a complete nut job, and have obvious signs of mental break down, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Probably varies, province to province.

Thanks for the answer. I don't know how the job situation in Canada is...but it isn't very good here in the U.S. in some areas. I'd hate to see someone get disqualified due to a lack of a job, or lack of a full time job.

Totally agree with you, but I would think I would prioritize looking for income rather than getting a firearms licence, unless of course it is a job requirement. Can't really say in regards to the job market, I think if you live in a major metropolitan city, it may be easier to look for a job, whether it pays enough or you like it is a completely different story though.

Calling it an "interview" is a stretch, hell if I was out of the country, I would give a buddy all my pertinent information and have him do it for me and they would be none the wiser. I find it absurd that they would call your "references" but not your spouse.

I'm hesitant to believe this story. I don't see them having the time or resources for doing in-person interviews. Maybe in some irregular circumstances but I've never heard of this happening to anyone.

I thought it was odd too but maybe this lady was beat up by an ex and it prompted the CFO to investigate further. There are probably many circumstances where an applicant can be checked further before a license is issued.
