Hi guys,

I know this upper got a lot of negative press due to the proprietary ammo but I was wondering if anyone on the forum has one. I picked one up this year and found there was no info or support online since the company shut their site and disconnected the phone. I started a Facebook group called 'Intrepid Ras 12 owners' to try to get some owners together to share experiences as well as ideas and loading data. Thought I might try on CGN to see if anyone else picked one of these up for fun.

I know restricted shotguns don't get much love. And I especially know that ones shooting proprietary ammo get even less love. But let's try to keep the hate to a minimum. At the current price point, it was hard for me not pick one up. The quality of the upper is outstanding. It's not something I'll shoot every day but it is a TON of fun to shoot. And yes, I know you can get an mka1919 in the same price range that shoots standard 12 gauge shells. Lol

What magazine came with your upper? If it is the modified Magpul .308 20 round magazine that normally comes with the uppers, you may want to check on it's legality unless pinned to hold 5 rounds of the original .308 for which it was originally designed, as it was modified by the manufacturer to hold the proprietary ammunition for the Intrepid. Having said that, if it is pinned, it should only hold one round of 12 gauge, which makes it less useful than a double barrel shotgun, in addition to being restricted.

Regards.

Ya, it's pinned to hold 1 round. I shoot it mostly in Vermont where I remove the pin. I also have some 25 rounders that hold 8 of the shotshell as well. Already called the rcmp to inquire. I'm going to have to send one of the 20 rounders for them to check and tell me if I can use it legally without the pin but I'm not banking on them approving it. I also have another modification that I'm working on which would allow 5 rounds of the proprietary ammo without the nose cones and doesn't allow more than 4 rounds of 308. If that one works reliably, it respects the law of permanently disabling a high cap mag for no more than 5 rounds of the ammo it was designed for. Either way, my main intent was to shoot this at the vermont range that I got to a few times a month. We find it easier to shoot outdoors in the US where we can practice forward movement as well as lateral movement.

Glad to hear that, wouldn't want you to get into trouble unnecessarily.

Will the ammunition load reliably without the nose cone? I imagine that your modification involves modification of the follower and the inside of the magazine body to provide a lip that will not allow the .308 rounds beyond a certain point due to their length compared with the 12ga rounds with the nose cones removed. Just be careful that it is not interpreted as modifying the magazine in contravention of the law.

Is ammunition even still available for this, or are you able to reload them somehow?

Regards.

Ya, that was the plan. But the mag doesnt require modification. Ammo is still available at 1$ a round. I have been successful in replacing the buck with slugs. I've also bought some 12gauge reloading materials to try reloading the expended hulls as well. The inside of the hulls have the same dimensions as standard 12 gauge as well as the primer pockets. Its just a matter of finding viable replacements for the nose cones.
