I just got this Rare Antique 1874 French St Etienne Marked 11 Mil Revolver.

Its a Comercial gun with the St Etienne proofmarks of 14200 PSI and has a Smokeless proofmark on the Trigger gard as well.
This is a very Rare find as most of these were Military Marked.
The bore looks new same with the Orignal 11 mil chambers.
Alot of these were cut to 45 ACP
Has the same St Etienne writeing on its side as my Military 1874 marked gun.
These were sure very well made guns.

That is not merely a well made gun, it is probabley one of the Most well made guns ever in all time. There is simply no better made revolver out there. Hold one of those and afterwards the best webley, colt or SW feels pretty cheap!

I'd hold on to that one if your safe has room for it.LOL.
 
I was visiting my friend in the hospital last week just days before he died of lung cancer.

He was a vintage revolver enthusiast and had a small but interesting collection. Last time I visited him at home I admired his S&W in 455.

When I told him I'd seen a St. Etienne in a stall at the flea market in Paris he said "I'd rather have a St. Etienne over a Colt anytime."

Him and I had great times talking guns. He didn't have many other gun nut pals.

He used to work at Lever Arms in the 1960s and 70s I think it was.

That was before I knew him
 
very nice what you make brass out of is it something easy .I'm asking because I know where I can get one and hadn't thought much about it untill I saw your write up did not know they were so good . I have an 8mm lebel and it is very well made. now you're making me want to spend money again
 
well im gona have to list this 1874 as i got two of these so im gona sell it.

Dez as for ammo they use 44 40 cases cut down.
Alot of these are made to shoot 45 ACP so check when you go look at it Bring a 45 ACP case with you if it fits in the Chamber its been Reamed to Shoot 45 ACP

The French and others used the 45 Acp Converted ones right up till the Vietnam war!
They can handle 45 ACP rds and i found out 455 webley cases fit fine in the 45 Acp converted ones as well.

If its Orignal 11 Mil like the one above Dixie gun works sells Brass and theres a fellow on Ebay in France who sells a Kit to reload these in there orignal 11 Mil rd it comes with hand dies and bullets and brass.
Same guy has a great Downloadable book im gona get to go with my other 1874 Officers Revolver.

I had a converted one and fired .454 hollow base bullets out of it in a case half way between a mkI and MkII 455 case.
4.5 grains of unique and it was very accurate. In DA it recoiled straight back with no muzzle flip, very quick revolver.
It is slower to load then a hinged revolver but man are they some tough and beautifully machined.
That should be in a box with 100 pieces of brass and 500 bullets!

Help please, I have a St Etienne , 6 shot double action with a bore dia. {aprox} 320. On top of the barrel is 1892 and on the right side is S 1896.
Can you guys tell me what I have and where I can find more info in a book?
When I get my camera working I will post a few pics of this and my GASSER.
I also have 2 more revolvers that I need help with , but there are no markings except proofs and they will have to wait untill I can send pics.

I have the 1892 french revolver its fun to shoot I bought bullets from Gad custom cartridges FMJ's I also have a bullet mold brass can be made from 32-20. pm me if you want more info on reloading .its fairly easy cartridge to reload
