I would like to remind all of the Precision Rifle enthusiasts that coming this July long weekend ,there are 4 fantastic opportunities for you to "run your rig" .
I know some readers here may not have visited the "Competitions" heading yet so I wanted invite you to look into joining in .These matches are designed to bring together like-minded individuals to participate in 3 to 4 days of shooting ,meet new friends , learn a whole lot and just have some "fun with a gun".
On July 1 weekend ,the following are some of the matches that are available across Canada. Take a look if you haven't already. You still have time to get ready and plan to join in .The experience is worth the efforts.

SK - Driller's FClass Match
AB - Western Cdn FClass Regional Championships
BC - BCRA Tactical Rifle Championships
Ont - Eastern Cdn FClass Regional Championships

Regards
Gord O

Gord is right folks- Don't think you need to have it all figured out to come on out and give it a go. You will learn more by stepping up and getting your first real look at 900m, and then hanging and talking w/ everybody else, than any other way. Even the guys that have been around for a while still remember the first time, so don't be bashfull- grab your gear and come out to play. This is NOT about ego- it's all about fun and learning from everybody else. You'll learn just as much yakking afterward as you will up on the line.

High Match Fees?NO PROBLEM!!! I've heard that there's a Booming market for kidney's in Toronto . Also heard a lotta politicians are paying premium for souls and an X.

If you can't afford it this time around, plan on it for next year ,save your nickels and a couple of days of vacation time.
For those that can afford it and are hesitating, book it and I promise you'll be glad you did.
More fun than "E" ticket Disney ride (only those of a certain age will remember what
Disney E tickets were.)

FWIW .I can still recall just how reluctant I was to join in my first competition. Didn't know all the procedures, afraid I was going to screw up and get embarrassed, and didn't know anyone there. I truly enjoyed it,made a pile of new friends and learned more in those couple days than I had in the entire previous year.
I 'll swear, that participating in competition is just like investing in a shooter training course, only less expensive.
Should be a great summer going loud.

And he still doesn't know the procedures. I shot with him today, and he kept shooting out of turn.

Norm,
You forgot to mention....I just got tired of waiting for you taking 3 strikes on your rounds to get them to fire :)
Your gonna have to start using new primers instead of the ones you find on the floor in the reloading rooms at the benchrest matches.

I'm almost as miserable an old coot as Mr Norm but much better looking.

You can find a place to shoot 2.5 days for $130?

Between IPSC, IDPA and Service Rifle I'm well aware of the relevent costs associated with shooting sports and know what it takes to put on the matches.

It's when things climb into the $250 and up range that people start to cringe (and less for some people).
Add fuel, hotels, meals and time off work (if things run into the week or greater distances are involved) and the added fact there are other matches elsewhere that are vying for competitors that match directors need to be cognascent of.

F-Class in my opinion is more and more becoming an elitist sport where high dollar equipment is the rule of the day.
Add to it higher and higher match fees for low round counts and you'll see it follow the fullbore path to success.

Beltfed,
It seems you've made your choices.I posted this to have those interested enough to consider it , a reminder that these matches are available and that they would be made welcome to attend.
Another post would be the place for your opinion on F Class,Precision Rifle versus your enjoyment of IPSC,IDPA and Service Rifle.
I have also competed in those sports(IPSC and IDPA) and they are great times.
However, I've also heard the same complaints about costs ,time, equipment races in those as well.
Please take no offense, but on the positive side we do have a great selection of matches in Canada where people of all disciplines can gather, compete and socialize. The same issues seem to appear in all disciplines as well.
Thanks
Gord

You're absolutely right Gord. My comment was not meant to stir the pot, just giving some food for thought to some of the organizers of such events.

Forgive me if this is a silly post, but i would just like to know where the ontario shoot will be held? I have been trying to find details but had no such luck. Maybe i was looking in wrong area... but anyways.

I am new to the entire shooting sport in general and i have an interest in precision shooting. Just wondering what costs are to go and just watch and learn too. Thanks guys

slugfest,
Attached is link to NCRRA with details on the Victoria Day Matches and the Eastern Regionals. They are to be held in Ottawa on Connaught ranges.

Would also suggest going to Ontario Rifle Association webpage as it has a lot of intro info.
Beltfed,
Understood and thanks for your input.

High match fees are the biggest detractor for most.

Can't agree more!
That and the process. My ideal scenario would be:
  1. Come in the morning,
  2. Meet other shooters,
  3. Shoot my rifle,
  4. Eat something (and maybe drink a beer),
  5. Shoot my rifle again,
  6. Ceremony for best shooters,
  7. Drink another beer,
  8. Drive back home

I'm not a serious competitive shooter but love any kind of shooting contest and meeting other shooters.

Sounds exactly like most single day shoots I've been to. Unfortunatly most matches in NB are on CFB Gagetown, so the beer has to wait till we've left the range. There is however, a pub by the front gate, so we don't go thirsty, once the shooting is finished for the day.

For what it's worth, the big shoots cost more to run, so they cost more. The single day shoots that the RNBRA put on are generally $20 for the day, with 3 relays. Cost is kept down with competitors doing some target pulling, but there are some paid pullers as well, so those who can't don't have to. I'd guess that the other club shoots are about the same.
