What optics setup is everyone running on a 223 semi for ipsc rifle/3gun? im assuming a 1-6/1-8x24 with a red dot on a 45 degree offset?

I run a 1-8X LPVO (Trijicon Accupower).

I dont run a red dot on 45 degree mount as that would have moved me to a different division last time I looked (I would have went from "Tactical Optics" to "Open" from memory - the rules may have changed - not sure).

What some folks do (and what I planned to do until King Turdhole decimated sports shooting by banning the guns that were used then claiming it had no effect) is mount offset irons for the close stuff (if your LPVO is on anything but 1X for something at distance).

For 95% of stuff I find 1X works great but for some distance shoots magnification really helps.

Ipsc would should be red dot only.
3gun you would want a quality 1-4 minimum.
If its 3gun in ontario, keep the red dot as you won't be shooting far.

For your consideration, there is talks that ipsc rifle and pcc would mandate the use of 1 optic either in conjunction with or replacment of iron sights.
Which means a possibility of no more 2 optic setups in the future.

If I am reading that correctly sounds like no more offset optic?

Offset irons would be OK though?

There is no provision in the suggested rule change about how either of those sights are mounted.
So, 45offset irons would be doable.

To be clear I mean I read it that Irons and an red dot type optic are fine but 2 red dot type optics are not (immaterial of how they are mounted).

You can shoot open and have whatever you want. It goes by class. Open I find the competition level no higher than Standard.

I want to shoot in Tactical optics. Shooting in Open would put me at a disadvantage as I run a production pistol and shotgun with no optic.

If you shoot Limited in 3 Gun your pistol and shotgun are fine. A red dot on your rifle (no magnification) is fine.

I use an LPVO on my rifle (hence Tactical Optics).

I vaguely remember the last time I looked at the UML rules that they had changed and you could have an optic on your shotgun OR pistol (but not both) and still be good for Tactical Optics

There seem to be a few 3-gun / Multigun organizations out there wtih different rulebooks, and IPSC is different again with its single-firearm pistol, rifle, and shotgun rulebooks. I recall one bumped you to open if you had an optic at all, while another did only if it was magnified. So definitely take a good hard look at the specific wording from the competition you're joining, or if more than one then compare carefully and consider if there's a rig you can bring to both or if this is an excuse to buy different firearms and sights.
