Robert Elliott and Wade Sanderson are pleased to announce their first collaborative IPSC advanced skills course. This two day event will be held at Waterloo County Revolver Association on September 18 and 19 and/or October 16 and 17 depending on demand.
The curriculum will include:
Day 1
Review of foundation techniques: Grip, stance, draw, reloads.
Review of shoot and move techniques:
Accuracy, speed, and TENSION:
Fast vs. Smooth: What does that really mean.
Seeing: Seeing what you need to see to make a given shot, and know what you need to see.
Far to near/ near to far: Adjusting pace and visual acceptability to the needs of the shot.
Cadence and timing: Aim longer, transition slower, and boost your hit factors.
Day 2
Equipment choices and set-up: Set-up of rig/maximizing efficiency. Spending your money wisely.
We’ll bring tools to help students re-jig their gear if necessary.
Gun 101: Getting it apart and back together without any spare parts left over. Cleaning, maintenance, tuning, spare parts and tools you need.
Attitude: Winning and losing gracefully. Learning from mistakes, sportsmanship, and ambassadorship.
Mental prep: Rewriting the internal software so it doesn’t crash you every time you enter a big match. How to prepare your mind and recognize the pre-programmed mental traps we all fall into from time to time and nip them in the bud with positive mental images. Visualization, belief, accepting excellence over mediocrity. Staying in your game, or shooting YOUR way rather than following someone else’s lead. Balancing intensities.
Physical preparation: Fitness, nutrition, hydration, caffeine, rest.
Be all there: Shooting in the present tense vs. thinking your way through a stage. Visualization and the sub-conscious-to-conscious learning curve. Discuss the four levels of competence.
Practice and work ethic made simple: Making time to learn how to save time. Training smart and cost-effectively. Discuss dry-fire routines and structured, focused live-fire practice sessions.
Shooting from awkward positions: Barricades under tables, hard leans, etc.
Dealing with tactile manipulation and weird sh!t: Get to the shooting as fast as possible.
Moving targets: Timing them, tracking them, then hurting them like they owe you money.
Shooting steel: Common errors and how to fix them.
Stage breakdown: The alchemy of it. What are the variables and how do you plan them? Risk/benefit analysis, playing in the Comstock world.
The price for this event is $375 for both days and $200 for one day. Space is limited and deposit required. If interested, please PM either Wade or me (relliott) for further details and to book your slot.
We are estimating between 300 and 400 rounds per day, so bring enough to cover you if you want to re-shoot any of the drills a few times.
