New to IPSC here. I understand the requirements behind the Production, Open, Revolver and Classic Divs. Can someone fill me in on Standard?

I've seen the bit about pistol having to fit in 'the box' and ported slides. Any other specifics? Which guns are most often seen/ dominate Standard?

Best way to describe standard by the rules is "fits in the box, no ports or optics."
Like Dave said, primarily STI/SVI, with Tanfoglio, Para and CZ trying to get noticed.
40 cal rules; Major, cheapest to get lots of rounds downrange and highest capacity (outside of Canada)

Fits in the box in the ready condition, this means a magazine (unloaded) inserted, hammer cocked and safety engaged (for 1911/2011 and similar pistols).

Reminds me to double check the fit of the P40L. ;)

Confirmed. It fits in the box fine.

OK I gotcha. I'm starting out in Production and gonna see where it takes me. One match under my belt, one this coming weekend, one in July than ON provincials.

On a different note: What age puts someone in junior, senior, super senior category?

Junior under 21, Senior over 50, Super Senior over 60 on the 1st day of the match

OP, did you get a current rulebook when you took the course?
If not see me at Chrono at the Ontario Provincials and I will make sure to have one for you.

Depending on your access to bras 357 sig or 9x40 could challenge for cheapest caliber in major.

Just sayn'
According to the rule book, there is an exemption for 357 Sig to make Major, but no such exemption exists for 9X40, regardless of how similar it is to 357 Sig.

I am curious how the caliber determination is made in the 357 sig vs 9x40. If it says 357 sig on the barrel but the shooter necks down 40 brass to save a few bucks. Is it the headstamp on the cartridge or the marking on the barrel? I have never had to deal with this situation. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks for the info on the 9x40. I have never seen a drawing for 9x40 to compare with the 357 sig. I made the assumption that they were the same with a shorter neck.
I am still interested in an answer to my previous question about people adapting 40 cases and loading 357 sig.

Thanks,
