After a slipping fall at the last Smith's Falls match  , I have to reconsider footwear

I realize some like to wear boots, some sports sneakers, and some cleats.

With regards to cleats: would golf shoes work? The might be better on slippery surfaces than hard cleats. Any thougths on cleats for running and gunning and NOT slipping

The problem with cleats is that sooner or later you'll run into stages
where you'll have to move/run on a wooden platform, and you'll slip and
fall, especially if it's raining.

Something like this is a great compromise: light, comfy, excellent on indoor surfaces, and pretty good on outdoor, including wood and metal.

Only $70. Merrill "Multi Sport Hiker" Got these after I slipped and fell in an indoor match late last year.

For more rough/wet conditions outdoor, I picked up a pair of these, just recently:

Gor-Tex, work great - waterproof, light, cool even in high heat...

I like to wear boots...good grip and ready for anything. The ones I wear are from 5.11 Tactical. They are light, have an excellent grip and they don't get too warm in the summer...compared to other boots.

Here is a link to the supplier:

I wear an old pair of running shoes.

The key is to try and practise running on all these surfaces. Arguably as important as practising shooting.

And it sounds stupid, but when you're walking around the house, practise keeping your weight on the balls of your feet, just like a ninja!!1!

the bottom pair look like my Vasque Gore tex XCR's. Very comfortable, lots of grip and good ankle support, not too heavy. I had some water leakage in mine, but they can only take so much:rolleyes: , running in puddles and wet grass all day.

my GF just got me a pair of Nike Mid Land Sharks and i love them. It is okay for all surfaces except WET wood platforms. For those stages i got some regular ACGs.

Having tried just about every option out there over the years; hunting boots, football cleats, turf shoes, running shoes, tac boots, dress Oxfords.....I have finally settled on a pair of simple trail runners. The ones I have are made by Nike and they have a very aggressive tread pattern, are light but supportive, and seem to grab very well on hard slippery surfaces like wood or dusty conctrete. Oh, and they have a nice roll-off on the heel for shooting on the move.

Love 'em.

^ I've used a similar shoe from Garmont for a while. Much lighter than a boot but still good support, traction and toe protection!

yeah has the feel of a boot, with the lightness of a running shoe...really happy with these.. plus no breakin time..

I see someone has the same problem as me. .22RF brass is the right size to get stuck in the treads. Then you have to wonder why all these spent .22 rf shells are littered around everywhere when you don't own one. :)
