Ok......
Season is coming and I want to look at new footware.

Stopped in a local sports store where I looked at some shoes

Looks like football shoes might be the best for outdoor shooting shoes.

BTW...the chickiepoo who took care of me thinks IPSC sounds like FUN!!

What sort of footware do you use?

This is a good question. I am looking for shoes for IPSC too and kinda lining towards indoor soccer shoes. They are well made and light.

i jsut use some low cut all terrain runners...

it is okay for indoors and out...just aren't that good on wooden decks and stuff....

Factors to consider:

You're going to stand around all day at the range.
You may be on wood surfaces or others as the stages offer themselves.

I never found cleats that I could wear for 6 hours and not be really sore.
Of course when I did wear cleats, I had to change to sneakers if there was a wood deck surface to shoot on.

I'm currently bouncing betweek Oakley tac boots and Nike ACG Sneakers.

The ACGs are less expensive and have great treads, but still stick on smooth surfaces. The Oakleys were ridiculously expensive, look cool and stick to every surface - Hard to twist your ankle with 'em too.
Both let my feet feel great at the end of the day.

Eric Grauffel poo-pooed my boots, said I should go low cut so I can move better - I apprently should be able to twist at the ankle.

My wife gave me the Oakleys so I'm going to keep using them. :D

I like the cleats....not that uncomfortable to me....but I do wear wear boots all week so I like light, I use nike mid and low cut (to pairs)and of course running shoes for the wood stages that requires running or under wet conditions (the woods become very slick)

Adidas GSG9's. A bit pricey at Botach Tactical as I don't know where else to buy these.
They are light and they keep your anckles stable with enough flex for good mobility. I find them comfortable to wear, but being high tops, they do get a bit warm in hot weather. On the downside, if you have a very wide foot, GSG9's may not be your best choice.

I use "Hi-Tek" Magnums and or "Nike" med cut cleats. With no complaints.

(Just plain info.) I have shoot matches in "Nike" sandals and footing, movement results were the same. The only complaint was picking the dam rocks out from under my feet. :p

Cheers

I need light weight, but with ankle support. I use a Vasque hiker style boot/sneaker. lots of grip, yet comfortable to wear all day.

I have 4 pairs of shoes that I wear when shooting. 2 pairs are indoor soccer cleats. Not the ones that are made for astro-turf, but the ones that are made for artificial grass. They have many-many small, soft rubber cleats. Great for soft dirt, sand and hard surfaces. Terrible in mud, real grass and gravel.

I also bring along 1 pair of Nike Shark Lo Football cleats. Great for grass, pea gravel, sand, mud. Not so good for hard surfaces.

I also bring along 1 pair of Nike Shark Mid Football cleats for uneven ground where I need more ankle support.

I also bring around a pair of velcro flip-flops for when I'm just taping/miscellaneous range help/working stats so I don't have to wear the same shoes all day long.

I always leave my stilleto heels at home. ;)

Eat your heart out, Imelda...:p :D

I've tried runners and cleats...I always go back to a pair of soft "tactical"-type leather boots with nylon panels from MD Charlton's. They seem to do everything well and are still cool and comfortable by the end of the day. They are fine for IPSC, range shooting and Tac Rifle.

Yeah, I'm pretty bad about packing lots of stuff. That's why I try to scout out the ground conditions to see which shoes to bring. :)
