Hey, i recently went to a meet & greet prior to black badge course, as they wanted to check us out and know what to prepare. They found i had to regrip pistol too often as the sweating made it slippy (beretta 92FS on stock plastic grips). I have ordered a set of hogue grips and i had planned to put some grip tape on them. But i did not expect them to wrap around the front. Does this make them not elligible for ipsc?

The FAQ in the IPSC world website says to refer to the Appendix 17 E3, however that section makes no mention of grips, only that grip tape can be placed in certain regions (with a diagram).

IPSC Rules FAQ
6. Can I apply skateboard or grip tape to the factory grips, or change the grips, of my Production Division Pistol?

Yes. See Point 17.3 of Appendix E3 in the January 2012 Edition of the IPSC Handgun rulebook.

Handgun rules (.pdf)

From my interpretation of the diagram, it makes no mention disallowing tape along the front of the trip. I just doesn't want you to put tape on the frame or slide or over any buttons or safeties.

I used a Hogue grip on my NP22 at my qualifier and no one said boo. The Hogue doesn't wrap around the front of the grip though. But that was a Lev II, maybe they just aren't looking.

Exactly what i tought about the grip tape, i just want to cover over the kind of coblestone surface. But if someone has the definate answer on the legality of my grips covering the front it would be appreciated. I could cut the front wrapping portion with an exacto, again if it's accepted...

Unless original firearm manufacturer offers wrap around grips, you can't use 3rd party ones that wrap around. See Appendix D4:

17.3 Aftermarket grip panels which match the profile and contours of the OFM standard or optional grip
panels for the approved handgun and/or the application of tape on grips (see Appendix E3) are permitted.
However, rubber sleeves are prohibited.

By my reading if they "match" the profile or contours of .. which the Hogue ones do I thought? At least for the SigP266 ones I had?

This is what i got

Are you planning to shoot this gun in Production Division? I would guess so, but if not then this grip discussion is irrelevant. You could use those grips in Open or Standard without any issues. They only pose a problem in Production as Beretta does not appear to offer grips with that profile and contour.

Looking at the Hogue website, they offer two styles of soft rubber grips for the Beretta 92/96 -- the "grip with Finger Grooves" that you appear to have purchased and the "Rubber Grip Panels" that would meet the requirements of IPSC Production division. They both have the same soft rubber, just the finger grooves are different. Buy the other style and you would be good-to-go in Production division.

Yes this is for production, final question to put an end to this thread, can't i just exacto all the finger grooves out and cut to exact same size as the oem one?

In reality if i could find a trausch grip it would be even better, i have yet to find a cdn dealer capable of getting them, and sending them an email will get no response as i have tried multiple times already.

Here you are, Beretta offer the 92 with wrap around grips from the factory, from their website.....(their spelling of Brigadier not mine)

92 BRIGATIER FS.
The Brigadier was designed to meet the special needs on the INS* who wanted an accurate, reliable and durable .40 caliber pistol with removable front and rear sights. The pistol incorporates all the high performance characteristics of the traditional 92 Series pistols plus features that are unique to the Brigadier.
The Brigadier’s slide is heavier and recontoured. Because of the heavier slide, the gun’s balance is enhanced and felt recoil is reduced, improving accuracy for follow-up shots. The Brigadier is available, on request, with wrap around, stippled rubber grips and hex key grip screws.

and the relevant rule,

17.3 Aftermarket grip panels which match the profile and contours of the OFM standard or optional grip
