Hello ,
My club is planning on ,starting up IPSC, and it's very new around my area.

There's going to be a BB course offered soon, and I would like some advice on what I'll need.

Looking at this ,more for fun, right now.

I'm going to get a CZ Shadow, but not sure of the gear I'll need.

Thanks

Bare minimum you'll need a holster, some mag pouches and a good sturdy belt. Do yourself a favour though and get a proper competition belt and just don't use your everyday belt. You don't NEED one to do your BB course but buying an inner/outer rigid belt is the way to go from the start. You'll be much happier with one. You'll require 4 to 5 mags as well. That's about all you'll need to get started. The key is to keep your equipment and setup very simple for your BB course. The less you need to think about how to run your equipment the better so you can focus on what is important during your course.

Blade tec holster and mag pouchs will do?
Optics planet has a Bladetec IDPA set for $70 US.

I'll have 4 mags, so I'll need 3 mag pouches,right?

And, what will I mostly be focused on?😁

Yeah that will work just fine to get you started.

Yes, 3 pouches will do.

You'll be focusing on being safe while applying the skills that are being taught so you don't DQ yourself and/or fail the course. :) Nothing worse than hearing the RO yelling STOP! in the middle of a stage because you broke 90 or stuck your trigger finger somewhere it didn't belong.

If he fails the course he can always wait a few years then make a thread complaining about he was mistreated because of his age.

Can't go wrong choosing a CZ Shadow or Shadow 2 for production division. BladeTec holster, proper competition belt, four magazine holders, four/five magazines. Have fun, play safe.
If you like 1911's, you can compete in Classic division.
:).

I'd suggest to have 7 mags. 5 at your belt, one in your back pocket with first round and one spare in your bag just in case. Don't worry about cost of mags, they will serve you couple of years. You spend more on matches and traveling.

Be save and have fun.

For the course, the blade tech DOH (drop-offset-holster) and a couple of mag pouches on a completion belt is fine (bladetechs usually come in twos). Wear pants with a back pocket for 2-3 more mags reasonably ready in a back pocket. Get a maglula uplula magazine loader to save your thumbs (you can thank me later). During the course and your first few matches you will likely see other gear (typically the instructors have a bunch) and you may want to switch out for other gear for perceived performance benefits or stylistic reasons, so don't go heavy at first.

This is goning to be new for us, nearest IPSC is 700 Km,s away.

I just ordered a CZ from Wolverine,

Going to look around for a drop leg holster, comp belt and a couple pouchs.

I've owned a few 9,s ,including CZ,s, that's why I chose the CZ.

I think if we get this going,it's going to be a club thing only, for now.

Thanks guys.

P.S
What's ,breaking 90

Actually it's breaking 180 and bits 180° from facing down range
And no drop legs man might want to reconsider that. There's a ghost holster and mag pouches on the ee right I think

180 Degree rule: Allowing the muzzle of your gun to break the 180 degree plane (an imaginary plane based on a line straight down the middle of the range/stage and 90 degree perpendicular in either direction, left or right, as viewed by the shooter) failure to comply results in a match disqualification.

As mentioned, drop-leg holsters are verboten in IPSC.

I suggest that you buy 4 pouches, and consider buying two more magazines. For IPSC in Canada, four is really a bare minimum, more is better.

With six magazines and four pouches, that'll be one less thing to worry about.

Looked around the site sponsors ,but nobody seems to have a complete kit.

Optics planet has a complete kit for $160 ish CAD.

Think this will do?
I'll pick up another double mag pouch as well.

As I said, once we do the BB,it's only going to be our club, maybe 18 people in all.
Who'll actually be competing, against each other.

As pointed out, definitely get the 2piece competition belt. You can go with cheaper duty style double mag pouches but if you decide to stick with IPSC and get serious about it, you will hate them shortly after and end up buying individual pouches like DAA, Ghost, CR Speed etc. If you're just there to send round downrange, you'll probably be fine.

I would suggest no less than 5 mags, ideal would be 6. On one of the skill tests in my BB course, we used up all 5mags. You'll end up using one of those mags as a Barney mag anyway.

A specialty item that came in handy was a magnetic mag pouch. You don't need it but it sure comes in handy later on.

If you're doing IPSC, the heel of the butt of your grip must not sit below the level of your belt so drop-leg holsters are not approved.

You can get a head start on the BB course by reading up the rule book:

Double belt rig is ideal as it stays sturdy and in place. Keep the holster simple as well. Ideally have 6 mags at least. 4 on the belt min. I like to carry 6 on my belt, usually dont use 2 of them but are real nice to have handy. Drop a mag, just leave it and move on kinda thing.

Ive watched a few competitors run back to pick up mags to finish a course or because they dropped it at some point.

Drop leg holsters are off, as mentioned. But you can use a DOH adapter from blade tech to drop the holster (a bit) and offset it (a bit) from the belt. Highly recommended, but note it may need adjusting with a heat gun to get a bit closer to your torso if it offsets too much (this is determined by your over the belt upholstery).

Also do get the uplula mag loader. Must have item, or you will be icing your thumbs after all those reloads.

For $150 plus taxes and shipping, you can get a competition holster and a double mag pouch from Solely Canadian. They are Canadian and a site sponsor.

You have to decide whether this will be just for IPSC (and/or USPSA) or will do double-duty for IDPA. If it's for IDPA also, buy with the IDPA rules in mind (because IDPA is generally way more restrictive in what you can use). What you've already been looking at would work for both IDPA and IPSC (as well as USPSA).

If it's only for IPSC you're probably better off buying the IPSC/USPSA gameboy stuff, like an inner-outer belt and huge adjustable individual magazine pouches. I'd strongly consider Safariland's ELS system.

I wouldn't use double mag pouches, especially for production division. I have them and am now switching to singles. Get a magnet or two as well.

Check out mdgardner.com It's all IPSC gear. Murray Gardner is a site sponsor, you'll find a link to his page on here some place.
