hey guys,

so i know there are alot of pistol threads already but i have some more specific questions.

I want to start Ipsc in production division and i'm currently planning on getting a Sig 226 tac ops. Its on the approved list from ipsc.org but after going through the rules i'm a little confused :)

The tac ops comes with an integrated magwell with the grips, but the rules state that there should be no magwell used in production. Maybe i read it wrong? should i change the grips?

second part to this is caliber, i'm not sure if i should pick it up in 9mm or 40s&w. i know i might be at a slight disadvantage with 40 in production but i figure it might be a little more versatile down the road. but 9mm is cheaper.

oh just in case, yes iv tried a bunch of other gun (cz,mp9,etc...) but the p226 elite/tac ops just feels great to me :p there goes the Christmas budget :p

thanks for the input.

The mag well rule applies to adding your own mag well to a gun on the list. If its already on the gun and the gun is listed it's no problem.

Most ipsc shooters idea of a mag well is the giant funnel you see on open/standard guns, you can throw mags at them an they find the way into the gun.

Edit to add: go 9mm. You will be glad you did, as will your wallet.

for ammunition it depends on whither you are reloading or not. if you are reloading i have been told by more then a few 40 production shooters that you can come up with a cream puff load in 40 that makes minor easily. if you are shooting commercial ammunition then you want to stict with 9 as commercial 40 is loaded to major power factor usually.

thanks for all the info guys, so i have found the model i want in 9mm, the only problem sofar is that it only comes with the standard 10rnd mags and not the 20rnd pinned. so the mags are harder to seat because of the magwell. is there something i can add to the base of the p226 mags to make them easier to insert? of course without making them not valid for production? if so where can i get that and howmuch would it cost ?

thanks

you can add basepads to your sig mags for production.

i use cz, tangfolio, and beretta pads for my mags.

many people use beretta pads, they fit most cz/sig/tang mags.

that is exactly what im looking for do you know where i can get them?

oh and i have to say that is a nice looking gun :) your making me regret my tacops... almost :p

Where did you buy you Tac Opps? You should have gotten your 20rnd mags pinned or welded to 10rnds. Whoever sold you tour Sig must have kept the original 20rnd mags and swaped you for regular 10rounders.

I speak from experience.

Yea i know there are 2 versions of the tacops the 226 and the E26 models one comes with extend mags the other regular 10rnd mags. Unfortunately no one has the E26 in stock. O figured i would just get some baseplates and not wait 24 weeks to get it.

I got a good deal on it, was 9mm and in stock. So we all make sacrifices :p
