So I'm trying to sign up for IPSC with the R9 and the guy who is offering up the training is telling me it's prohibited and I can't use it.

First I've heard about it, wasn't on the list Friday.

I'm assuming he's wrong and just doesn't know?

Told me to rent hand guns to sign up. I'd rather buy a shotgun then rent a gun.

I wish the trainer knew that. I feel like this getting started with IPSC is already off to a bad start because the trainer doesn't know what's going on.
You expect that every black badge instructor should know that sterling arms did not send a firearm that they manufactured and sold to the rcmp so there has been no determination of its status and no frt.

I dont imagine they have memorized every gun on the ban list but I do expect that if they don't know for sure that they say so.

Is it OK that the trainer gives inaccurate information to a law abiding person with a legal firearm that wishes to get into competition?

The ban lists are freely available, easy to check before you assume and make an incorrect statement.

Unfortunately in the world of guns there are many know it alls who seemingly know very little. It gets worse when you actually shoot and compete, but you learn to drown out the ones who have very little to contribute. Id try once again and explain to him it isnt prohibited, if he says it is ask where he is seeing that. If that doesnt work, another moron lost us a valuable new member to keep our sport alive. Best of luck.

The instructor sent me the little blurb about how it has no FRT and the Liberals are supposed to change the rules towards the no FRT.

I sent him the list of band guns and told him that it's not on the list.

But apparently that wasn't good enough.

He doe

I let him know they haven't changed it and sent him the list of prohib firearms, but that wasn't good enough.

So I was able to sign up for IDPA and DSS with the R9, that's why I was surprised I got push back from the IPSC guy.

Not sure who you are dealing with, but I would recommend contacting a different IPSC black badge instructor, there are options in the lower mainland. Good to see you are joining the fun at IDPA and DSS, great people and a lot fantastic events. Perhaps I will see you out there! There are also 2 Gun events and Speed Steel matches at Chilliwack where your R9 is more than welcome 👍

Right on I'd love to get as much practice as possible.
