Might be kind of a silly question but here goes.

I shoot primarily 2 gun and my set up is for that.

I have a holster that is for my M17 with light/laser

Can I use the M17 with light/laser for IPSC?

Bear in mind I have no intention to actually USE the laser or light, just want to keep in installed so I have proper retention I’m my holster. I would even remove the batteries if that makes a difference.

And anyone know if there are any rules about this in IDPA?

That’s too bad it’s not allowed in IDPA, As far as IPSC goes, I wouldn’t care what division I’d be in, I just like competing and getting better. I just enjoy it. Just trying to avoid having to buy another holster.

Man, I wish there were more 2 gun competitions close by. Going to have to look into competing in the US.

Saw a cool competition called “Tac Games” that blends CrossFit with tactical shooting. Looks like a riot!

No one is probably going to care about that at a club shoot. At a level three match the cros inspect your equipment. There it will become an issue because the cro likely does not know so he contacts the range master who likely does not know. Then there is a big conflab where all 300 competitors get out their rule book and try to figure out if its legit.

Then the gamers will be like well if he is allowed that why cant I put a folding foregrip with a light on my rail so long as it fit in the box.

So then everyone be like no that would not be ok. But then the Philadelphia lawyer would mention that if he did that he might be in carbine division as that would be ok.

Then the rangemaster would tell us all to shut up and rule that the gun does not fit in any division.

But he would not be sure so he would refer it to the regional director who does not know who brings it to the world board of ipsc who form a special committee to research this and brings forth an amendment to the rules which is voted on three years from now.

So for the love of god spend 50$ on a holster before you show up with that at a level 3 match.

if your current holster fits your M17 with your light/laser attached, would it not still fit your M17 with the light/laser taken off? Most drop-in pouch style holster retain on the trigger guard, so that would still be ok.

A flashlight/laser falls under the optical/electric sight category in IPSC.
(5.1.3.2 "Optical/electronic sights" are aiming devices (including flashlights) fitted to a firearm which use electronic circuitry and/or lenses.)

Production does not not allow optical/electronic sights. I'm not very experienced in IPSC but I would assume at any qualifier or higher match simply taking batteries out would not be adequate. They are pretty strict on rules. The light would probably also be considered a production class prohibited aftermarket accessory because of the weight it adds. I'm assuming if you want to be competitive with the M17 you'll want to be in Production. Might be worth looking at just getting a simple blade tech or similar holster.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I’m going to just remove it for all the IDPA/IPSC matches, if the holster allows safe and adequate retention. It’s also a level 2 holster, so it does have an added layer of security

I haven’t received it yet, as I just ordered through Solely, so won’t know until it gets here.

Cheers guys!

Level 2 retention. How does it retain the pistol and how is it released?

This made my morning, thank you!

For production division? No go.

For Standard division? Take out the light bulb, and provided it fits in the box, you're good to go.

A Glock with a "light" attached (no electronics), filled with lead shot for weight, has been used at World Shoots. If it fits the box, it's allowed.
