We have convinced Tritium to make the trip down to EESA Sat. July 11th, for the second course. We have a couple of slots open, so if you are interested, get in touch with me via PM, and we will get you a spot. If you are heading to the Nationals, and participating in the 3 Gun Match, this is a perfect time to get some training in, from an A1 instructor. You will also need 250 rounds or so, of your preferred reliable ammo

Sample of the course outline:

Rifle set up
Gear set up
Sighting in (with optics, irons, BUIS)
Shooting drills
Positional shooting
Mag changes
Malfunctions
Barricade shooting
Shooting on the move.

And here is some of Tritiums demands:

Oh thanks, Rotorwing! Now I'll have to wear heavy armour the whole time!

The guys at EESA are a great bunch and I'm really looking forward to doing this one.

Just an FYI folks, there won't be a ton long range work but there will be lots of drills to improve handling, safety and accuracy. We'll dial all your guns in too!
 
Course needs!

For those of you attending, here is a list of what you will need:

You will need:

1) A reliable semi-auto rifle - I don't care what it is... If you show up with a Garand, I'll work around it. If it's an M14, Mini 14, Garand, Classic Green, Ak-variant, XCR, we'll be just fine - you will learn mag changes. Bring a back up gun if you have one - I haven't met a type of gun, yet, that didn't break on a course.
2) 250 rounds (at least).
3) Eyes and ears
4)Elbow and Knee pads are nice to have too.
5)Cleaning kit and CLP or oil
6) At least 5 X 5 round mags - 10's are better but this is Canada. You will learn how to do mag changes!
7) Some form of carrying at least 2 or 3 mags - vest, chest rig, belt mounted pouches, whatever! I don't play up to any particular set of rules so it is your job to know the rules of your sport. I'll have a few examples there if you want to try them. For competition (notice I didn't say IPSC), I prefer belt mounted stuff. Contact me for some guidance if you need it, I'll even give you company names and specific products.
8) A snack and lunch are good ideas. If lunch goes qickly, we can get in more shooting!

So, get geared up and let's do this.

Was an Awesome day, learned quite a few different little tidbits on operating the AR, and got lots or rounds down range, with great critiquing. Our newest EESA BB holders learned a ton, highly recommend this to anyone just getting into the 3 Gun game, and also anyone wishing to bone up on the basic skills.

We got a little wet for the first hour and half or so, but the rest of the day got progressively hotter.

Thanks Tritium, for making the trip down to our corner of the world, and thanks to the shooters that came out. I think everyone had a great time, and everyone walked away with some good experiences. Can't wait for the advanced course to be put together!

Also would like to thank everyone that helped get setup, and the inevitable tear down, much appreciated. Though I bet we'll (IPSC Shooters in general) get #####ed at for something, LOL

It was great to have Earl down for this course. And Im looking forward to a follow up one. I learn lots and met some really good guys.

ESSA is a great place and their cooks rock! What a lunch.

Now only if someone can convince Tritium to make it to a club closer to the GTA!!!!

I'd be there in a heart beat (would have made the ESSA, but had a soccer tournament this weekend I had to coach)..
 
I mentioned to Tritum for a "physical version" of this course- more movements, more physical demand, more running and more shooting.

I am hoping this will happen in Ottawa
 
I might as well write a mini-review of the day -

The course starts off at close range to show the difference in POI due to bore height. A few tips here and there on mag change and shooting stances......etc. Before lunch, we did some basic standing position and transition to kneeling. After lunch ( the fries.....:rockOn:), we got into some positions behind barricade and urban prones.

Without giving out too much, it is a fun day. It is a good review of some of the basics. Although it is labelled as "IPSC" oriented , the skills are universal. Even if you don't shoot IPSC, most of the materials are very good to know. It really teaches you to learn more about your rifle and how it works.

Thanks to Tritium and 7.62mm. This is a great course to get more people interested in black rifles.
