I am thinking of moving from Classic to Standard. Mostly for more/better competition and the extra two rounds. I want to go major with the .40 as I have my son shooting production with the .40 so I am all set up, would just need to change powder dispensers. I am torn between the CZ Tactical Sport or the Tanfoglio Limited custom (Xtreme if I can find one). I plan to make the purchase in the fall so I can practice most of the off season and be ready for the new season with the new gun.

What are your thoughts?

I see a lot of limited customs In my area, It's probably the best value in a standard gun.
Tactical sport orange is of similar value.
2011's are also popular for a good reason
Regular Cz tactical sport I see a few but not as many as limited custom or 2011.
I would probably go for the tanfo because it fits my hand size

Go with the CZ Tactical Sport, Orange if you can get one. Tanfoglio look good at first, but you will likely regret it after. CZ triggers are so much better right out of the box, Tanfoglio will likely never match it even with a professional trigger job. The hard chrome finish looks good new, but both of mine are now quite rusted in the checkering and have a few other "spots" as well. The Tanfoglio does have better magazines, I will give it that. Just about every Tanfoglio owner in my area has had theirs crack in one or more places. One of mine has a crack under the trigger guard towards the mag release button, (a strange place to crack in my opinion). Several guys have had theirs crack along the rail from the safety back. I have also cracked a CZ frame, but after a lot more rounds, and it was replaced by CZ, (less than 3 years old, they gave me a whole new gun). Tanfoglio won't do anything for you. I have owned both, and this is my experience with them.

^^ Wow, never knew about that on the Tanfoglios. I was eyeing a Stock III Special in 40SW. Well, let's hope CZ comes out with a Shadow 2 in 40SW. :)

So I just spent a good hour trying to find the tactical sport in orange, good thing I am not in a rush. Too bad the Shadow 2 isnt likely to come out in the 40, but kind of useless in a production pistol for serious competition.

I don't know my Match has had over 20k rounds works just fine. I've seen tons of tacticals have issues with Mags because they are not the normal CZ75 mags.

I had 3 tanfo and not an issue with any. Trigger jobs on a Tanfo are stupid easy to do.

You could always buy a match from Irunguns they are fairly inexpensive compared to a Limited Custom. I am pretty sure Freedom does trigger jobs on all the extremes. I would personally buy a large frame Tanfo.

Given I know Dan and the amount of experience he has as well as I personally know of many of the cracked Tanfo's he references I'd put a lot of weight in his opinion.

Tanfoglios were good guns for production division until Eric Grauffel decided to shoot production division. Then they got a big workout and they got great. The Xtreme line was born.
Same thing happened last year when Eric got serious about Standard division. Redesigns happened and frame cracks from the new versions are not coming back to the shop anymore.
