IPSC Training

Based on his performance at 2018 IPSC Nationals in Manitoba I have to question his “expertise”....

Don’t know the guy, don’t have a horse in this race or know what this thread is all about, but just checked the Gents standings in the 2018 IPSC Nationals and I thought he had a respectable showing.

He finished 2nd out of 20 in his Production Optics division and shot 95% of of the winner. Overall he finished 76 of 334 and shot just shy of 70% of the overall winner, Mike Burrell, who was shooting Open. Division differences aside, he finished ahead of some very respectable IPSC shooters. And for those of you who know of Mike Burrell, you’ll know shooting 70 % of Burrell is not all that bad.

Finally, the best ‘athletes’ don’t always produce the best ‘coaches’ or instructors. Just sayin.

Depends on what you want, and what you're willing to pay. If I won the 60 million lottery, I would seek out the best trainers in the world. As long as this guy teaches me safely, I am sure I will improve. It's up to me to practice. So bottom line, seek references from his past students. He might be a great teacher.

At matches I'll hear people talking about thinking of getting a coach, and then invariably someone will try to compare their own skills with that of a discussed coach, as if a guy couldn't coach a shooter where that shooter can outshoot the coach at a match. They don't have a clue. The best athletes in the world have coaches. It will boil down to the coach's ability to observe issues, and come up with a plan to address areas to improve.

If it's for just a BB, I think he would be fine. As most newbies are more concerned of taking the course.

as for advanced course, he most likely have a little experience to pass on.

How much is the course?

One guy in this thread smoked him at nationals. Another guy would have - if he didn’t do dumb things.

I’d rather squad with them and watch their runs and compare them to mine.

What does any of this have to do with his ability to teach a Black Badge Safety Course? What? Only the best of the best can be BB instructors? Really??

Anyone care to explain what this thread is really all about?

Not sure where BB course is coming from. If it is about BB, I am sure he is good to go. But my understanding was; it’s more of advanced stuff. I might be wrong, either way, if people see value in it, they should take the course. But for me; I see no interest in it, I would rather dryfire.

Whoops. Didnt realize M.Moose also scored higher at Nationals. So 3 GM’s in here would pass on the course, which is fair. The gains made at that level are incremental.

Qualified training isn’t usually a bad investment. It all depends on the level you’re at, how much the course costs, and how much that money means to you. $400-$600 for a weekend means different things to different people.
