iron sight removal

Hi guys, I have a pre-1980 sako .222 vixen that I am attempting to remove the iron sights from. My problem is with the front sight. I removed the sight guard and tapped the dovetail front sight out sideways, exposing the base. My problem is that the base has no visible screw (as with my newer model sako's). How do remove the base for the front sight from the barrel? Thanks very much, Campbery

I think it probably has a dovetail that would need top be tapped out sideways,at least the front sights I have had were like this.Be sure from someone with more knowledge than me,hate to see you damage it.

Thanks Machinistbutler, tapped out the dove tail as descirbed above and still have the base to deal with.
