I was fixing my AR-500 steel target, one of the kids hit the cross member and took a chunk out of it and the polymer spinner, when I noticed my office door stop. It's an old cast iron iron I've had since I left home. It's been a door stop for at least 40 years that I know of and probably longer. (I think it used to sit on an old wood stove.)
As I used to use old cast iron pans as gongs for my BB gun when I was a kid I was wondering if the iron would be any good as a spinner target for a .223 or .308 at 100m+. I'd need to change the angle of the handle so it faced the shooter right but otherwise it's 6"x4"x1.5".
If the iron isn't strong enough and just going to blast it to hell after a day of shooting I'd rather keep it as a door stop but if it would stand up to the rounds for years of fun I'd clean it up and paint it white. These things seem to sell between $10 & $30 on ebay so it's not like I'm losing money. (Now some of the old pans can be worth a lot it seems...)
Anyone tried this or seen one used as a target?
TIA,
Zen
