Is 1 in 9 twist too fast for a 55gr in 223?

I'm thinking not and I'd like to use these as plinking rounds as they are so plentyfull, save the 69 gr for paper punching.

I don't know for certain but hopefully someone here can confirm the following. Out to 100 yards or so it is not a problem however they loose stability at further ranges.

It's fine.

I've heard people shooting 75 grain bullets in 1/9 barrels, that is pushing it though.

Anything up to 69 grain bullets will work 100% in a 1/9.

I shoot 55 grain bullets in my 1/7 twist barrel and it works just fine.

I had a 1:7 twist barrel in a .222, and accuracy was exceptional across the board both heavy bullets and light. The only problem I had was with light weight Hornady SX's or Sierra Blitz, as the fast twist was beyond the strength of the thin jackets and they would occasionally disintegrate on the way to the target. This never occured with any other bullet regardless of weight, and I shot hundreds and hundreds of 52 gr MK's

50's are no problem in that twist. If your groups get out of control after 100 look at trying different bullet shapes/types and tinker with the powder charges.
