Hi all,

Just purchased a Savage Model III in 300WinMag 24" barrel 1:10twist. This is my first 300WinMag

My intent for this rifle is precision Target shooting to 100-500Yards

I have a boat load of 168gr ELD Match that I use on my 308 & 30-06.

1- According to my Hornady Book, IMR4350 is good for lighter bullets, wondering what is 168gr? Lighter of Heavier?

2- Should I move to another bullet weight? and Powder? Recommend for me

Regards

Most factory .300 win mags will probably be in the 1-10 twist range and for target bullets I’d prob be looking for something a bit heavier myself. But if I was like you with those components on hand I would try work up a load I’m sure you can get those 168’s shooting just fine especially given your 100-500 yard range goal. I shoot the hornady 168 bthp match in my .30-06 1-10 twist with good accuracy. IMR 4350 should work good

I would think that if you were shooting at 600 - 1000 yds then the 168 would be on the light side. But for 500 yds shooting it could be just right. Only way to find out is to test. In my 300 Win mag the 168 Sierra shot lights out to 500 yds for a hunting rifle. JME

Awesome thank you guys for all your input, since I personally don't use at all past 500, I will stick with the 168 that I have already
