Is 25-06 hard to find?

The 2506 is gaining popularity and ammo is available most places. I have had several and love the caliber. Moose deer elk b bear. Great cartrige

You likely won't find it at Canadian Tire but I have seen .25-06 ammo in the last few months at Bass Pro, Al Simmons in Hamilton and Shooter's Choice in Waterloo.

Cartridges that everybody sells

I'm going to tell you an important secret, the list of easy to find rifle cartridges:
  • 223 Rem
  • 243 Win
  • 270 Win
  • 7 Rem Mag
  • 30-30 Win
  • 308 Win
  • 30-06
  • 300 Win Mag
The cartridges in bold can be found anywhere in Canada, other are tougher since most hunter will always buy a 270 over a 7 Rem Mag and 30-06 over a 308 or a 300 Win Mag (nobody hunts with 223 Rem).
The big magnums are easy not as easy to find in areas where deer is the main game.

My personal favorite hunting cartridge, 270 WSM has won the Short Magnum War and is now seen farther and farther out of the Civilisation ;)

It shouldn't be too tough to find .25/06 factory ammo seeing that you live in a major metropolitan area. The guys that are most likely to have difficulty finding it are those who live in small towns where the local hardware store brings in .30/30, .270, and .30/06 in addition to .22 rim-fire and low brass 12 ga. Like all center-fire cartridges, the versatility of the .25/06 increases with handloading, and the cost of the initial setup can be quickly recovered. Handloading will encourage you to shoot more, thus developing better marksmanship skills within a shorter period of time.

25-06 can't be that tough to find. If you are having issues look west lots of guys on the prairies like this round.

I've hunted with a 25.06 for over 20 years, and have never, ever found ammo a problem to come by. Personal favorites are Federal Premium 117 Sierra GameKings, and Fusion 120s...both are extremely accurate in my rifle, and are absolute murder on both whitetails and muleys.

Warning, though...

Once you get used to hunting deer with a 25.06, you'll never go back to anything else!

:)

"...How expensive is it?..." Runs $33.95 per 20 for Remington at Shooter's Choice in Waterloo. Should be close to that everywhere.
"...The cartridges in bold can be found anywhere in Canada..." So can the others.
"...nobody hunts with 223 Rem..." Lots of people hunt varmints with a .223. It's completely legal for deer in some Provinces too.

Easy to find federal vital shock remington corloct and winchester cxp1 and 2. Love this caliber. Altho personally I find it light for moose but I'm planning on taking a black bear this year with it and also a wolf

Thanks guys for all the replies. I am defienely interested in the rifle now. I would love to learn how to reload as I do hit the range quite often and .303, 30-30 etc etc is getting pricey the more I shoot. :D I have kept all the spent brass from all my trips to the range just never got around to learning how to reload. Shouldnt be to hard to learn, just time is not on my side most of the day.
