Is a CZ858 with the B&T magwell adapter worth the extra cost?

Hi Gents,

I'm in the market looking for a CZ858 in 7.62x39 and saw that Wolverine has a version that has been milled out to accept the B&T magwell adapter for using 10rnd XCR mags.

Does anyone have this version? Any issues? And is it worth the extra costs?

Thanks in advance.

If I was to buy one again, with this out there, I would buy the adapted rifle. I love the CZ858 platform and I am fighting the urge to have it done on mine. The machining costs have jumped in each thread i read about the mod in ( to rich for my blood now), plus the fact that I am hesitant to modify a great rifle for something that is still new.

I think I am going to get a cheap SKS done (hopefully) and plink with that.

I just ordered a stock CZ858 (haven't got it yet - grrrr canpar...) and was sorely tempted to cancel the order and get one of the modded ones from Wolverine. I was quoted $150 for Wolverine to do the machining then add the $185 for the adapter and you're off to the races with LAR mags. Once I get mine, I'll prolly take it out to the range a couple of times then decide if I want to ship it to them for machining, but on the face of it it seems like a good idea.

Factor in shipping both ways, plus HST on the work and adapter....I am not so sure.

I'm mainly looking at it as I am pretty much set on buying an XCR-L in 7.62 in the new year, and it would be nice to share both the mags and ammunition.

I just got a quote from DLask out west here and they want $45 to install the B&T on a CZ858. Having run LAR 10rd mags in my Su, I'll def be getting some of the 10rd XCR's and the adapter done.

my 2 cents you are getting answers from folks who want one but none from anyone that owned one. Well I had one and they are about 98% reliable. A couple rounds per hundred will have a failure to feed. If you take your cz 858 and wiggle the mag it will wiggle a bit. The adapter is retained like your mag is and the adapter itself will wiggle a bit. Now the lar mag will wiggle a bit in the adapter. Sometimes with all this movement rounds do not always feed as they should.

I was interested in using it for ipsc, but the reliability of it would cost me time and lower my score, so I sold it.

Whats the purpose of spending all this money just to be able to shoot 10 rounds at a target instead of 5 without reloading? If the world goes to hell in a handbasket, everyones gonna punch out their rivits and be on their merry way with their 30rounders. Seems a little insane.

The adapter allows for the original mags to be used and many of us want more trigger time and less reloading time - plus it can help the scores if you're competing

I got mine recently and I don't experience any feeding issues. The only ammo I used so far though was a Non Corrosive commercial ammo.
My first attempt at actually owning reds and I must say I'm impressed.

If it works it's worth every penny.

If it doesn't, you'll be very, very frustrated and your 858 might end up looking like this:

I cant remember who makes mine, but i have the crappy plastic one. It is great for us neutered canadians. aside from the novelty factor of having 10 rounds, any magwell adapter, even the aluminum b&t is a toy.

That being said, i love it because all my friends are stuck with 5 rounds!

Mine is functional 99% of the time. I have had the ocational failure to lock open, and a few times the adapter and magazine fell out of the gun while firing.
