Is a Ljungman AG42 worth buying without the magazine?

I don’t know about this particular rifle but single loading into the chamber is not recommended for some other semi-auto rifles due to the risk of slam fire or damage to the extractor.

Having shot a AG42 in the past I would be terrified trying to place single cartridges into the breech knowing that giant bolt is but a bump of the cocking knobs away from removing knuckles.

No doubt. Of all the semi's I have seen, the AG42 would be the one that I would be least interested in single loading!

Agreed @ $100 and This is the worst rifle (including the Hakim) to not have the mag.

I wouldn't pay more than $100 for it, since it is now just a very awkward single shot.
Foolish, foolish people that take magazines out of guns, hide them and 20 years later they are permanently lost.

Ask Huskydude.. I found on another thread, he bought one without a mag, he put a WTB and someone had one.. I don't think he paid too much for it.

There are a good number of reproduction hakim mags available at several vendors in the US. With coordination with a cross border company who can pin and import it for you that's probably your cheapest option. I think the repros are running $40ish

hard to believe that I purchased 2 of them in 1982 for 90$ each. I shot them a bit but liked other rifles better and sold them for 400 each a while back. loading them single shot is not healthy for the fingers as the bolt comes together rather hard and the flying brass is dangerous as it flies a fair distance from the gun.

Yeah, they were cheap a lifetime ago. I have never seen anything throw brass farther and generally straight back and screaming hot! I used to joke to my buddy that the Swedes must have been nervous about Russians sneaking up behind them and the hot brass would give some defense!

Interesting. I was just checking out my grandpa's twin AG42's this weekend. One is semi-sporterized (shortened forend and a side-mount scope) and the other is original. The rear sight is really cool! I never realized that the magazines are rare...good thing he has a few spares. The design of the magazine doesn't look like it lends itself well to 3D printing, unfortunately.

Before anyone criticizes the molestation of a Ljungman, it happened in post-war Finland at a time when commercial rifles were totally unaffordable for the common man. Swedish rolling blocks and Mosin Nagants were the other common options. Gramps also has a scoped sporter built on a Swiss 1889 action. Old school stuff.

Never had a chance to handle an AG.
Imagine they are way nicer than a Hakim...but I sure like the adjustable gas on the Hakim, no chasing 8 x 57 in the tall grass.

Always a good idea to post up a WTB in EE.
Yes I found a second AG42 because it was offer as magless. But I purchased it anyway.
Did a WTB ad, a member from GTA that had a spare mag contacted me and we made a deal.
Turns out he has an awesome collection of Milsurp.
Became good long distance friends sharing many stories.
Not everyone wants to gouge you an outrageous price for a 42 mag.

Love my 42's, although one seems to be spending a fair bit of time at my brothers place....
