Is a red dot supposed to have a perfect dot?

Just got my aim point pro in the mail, it's my first red dot. Upon turning it on, I noticed that it wasn't a perfect dot, it looked more like a dot with multiple partial conjoined twins on it. Is this normal?

Thanks

You're brightness may be too high. They are never perfect but they tend to look crazy when they flare.

I turned the brightness to the lowest setting, and although it's obviously not as noticeable its still there. As I said, I'm just curious if it's supposed to be a perfect dot or if there is some deformity to them.

Not trying to be rude, but do you wear glasses, as this can at times be an issue.
Of the "red dots" on the market the aimpoint has the most sharp dot .
we have a few aimpoint pro at the shop and they are nice and sharp.
I cant say if its any less sharp them my H1 micro.

And stop staring at the dot! Stare at a target or something in the distance.

I didn't look out the window, I was looking at my moms face indoors. Maybe it'll look better outside. And I don't wear glasses and I wasn't staring at the dot! I was starring at my mother! (sounds creepy I know haha)

Haha, I love you guys. It wasn't mounted on my ar (haven't received it, will get it Monday!). I'll check her out outside tomorrow and see how she does.

geez man, leave your poor mother alone, that poor woman :p

but seriously, i have glasses, and thick ones at that, and have never came across a red dot that didn't fuzz or blur a bit, including my nightforce :(

The original post actually just changed my shooting career forever. My eyes have never been horrible but are far from perfect. I scraped through the eye exam this year to get my M1 license but never thought anything of it. I don't currently wear glasses.

I always thought the image I saw in a red dot optic was the was it was supposed to be, like a bunch of grapes with a flame around them haha. Chalked it up to low and mid range optics until I looked through an Aimpoint recently and.. same thing! Figured this was how red dots were supposed to look!

Popped up my rear MBIUS and looked through the apperture: perfect dot, small and crisp. I started to research and found an asitgmatism is the culprit for this and remember my uncle who is an optometrist, mentioning years ago that I had a mild astigmatism!

Tried on my dads glasses who also has a mild astigmatism and lo and behold, sharp, small, crisp dot! Now I'm extremely excited to get out there and start shooting the way I should be when I get my new glasses! Thank you so much, this was definitely a forehead slapping moment!

PS. Watch out Borden CQB - I've been half blind the whole time haha ;)
