Is an 1886 45/90 to valuable to shoot?

I recently inherited a Browning 45/90, it's in rough shape and needs some major TLC but I'd like to get it fucntional and shoot it. Is this gun too valuable to shoot?

Also, is there anyone qualified in Alberta who can help me restore this gun to a functional state? It will need a new stock for sure :(
 
If its in rough shape, shooting it isn't going to hurt its value. This might be a consideration only with a really premium specimen. Just make sure its safe to shoot.
 
If it is a Browning, its not an antique so you would give it the same care as any other gun. Your description of the gun being in rough shape makes me think it is actually a Winchester and if that is the case as long as the gun is not factory original, just use reasonable care with it. When I had one in 40-82, I certainly used to shoot it.

My bad, it's actually a Winchester. Everything seems to work OK on it mechanicially, other than a partially broken stock. It has an octagon barrel if that means anything. Maybe I'll take it to Alberta Tactical Rifle for a check up.
 
There's a guy in Bentley who has a stock making machine, He makes an exact copy of the origonal. If the stock is only mildly cracked you may want to just get it repaired as the new stocks may be pricey and they won't match the rest of the rifle. The gent's name is David Henry and he is known for very high end work. Last I talked to him he was swamped so there may be a bit of a wait for getting your Betsy up and running. I will try to find his website too.
 
If it is a Browning you can get the wood from Browning. They restock their own guns under warranty but also sell the replacement stocks for their arms. Might be a bit pricey but may be worth looking into.

I hope not as I may have a shooter up for sale in a couple of weeks
