Is Camo worth it?

I have wood/blued, one of my buddies has all black synthetic, the other has camo......
We've all shot the same number of birds

buy what you like
If you want camo cause you think it's pretty, go for it
If you want camo cause you think it will make you a more effective hunter, make sure the gun is also 3.5", you only buy the expensive decoys and you get the the fancy layout blinds

If you're gonna blow money, might as well blow money in a big way

That depends. Do you wear camo when you hunt? If the answer is yes it certainly couldn't hurt. If you don't wear camo what's the point? If you like it and want it get it.

Sorry buddy, you have fallen into the sales pitch of camo. Humans wear camo because some animals have learned that the human outline means trouble. Now I highly doubt any animal out there has gotten educated of some dark colored inanimate sticks that some funny looking bushes are holding go boom and kill them.

Camo on guns for killing animals are just a money grab and for people wanting to look as awesome as possible. As long as you gun isn't shiny you do not need to worry.

OK, so most believe that camo is useless, or at least largely so. But a couple of you have mentioned that it is a second layer of defence towards the elements. What is the truth to this, if any? I can see how extra protection is valuable for a waterfowl gun. Assuming money is not a factor, is camo worth it in this regard?

I shoot birds with my shiny guns and they don't seem to mine. It's not like they see an old pop can and flair...they'll never get to land if you look at the amts of garbage at some of these public marsh.

But if you like it, you should buy it. You can't go wrong with getting what you like.

One problem with a camo gun is if you ever put it down you may lose it in the reeds. I have a buddy who has a camo gun who layed it up against a tree, went for a dump and had a tough time finding it when he came back.

Proper cleaning and gun care is enough "defence towards the elements" IMO. I have never hunted waterfowl in a situation where I couldn't clean and oil my gun at the end of the day, but maybe if you hunt for days at a time in the rain and sleet it would be important. It's just not a factor for me, so I won't worry about it or pay money to get it.

Actually, no, I haven't fallen for any sales pitches. None of my firearms have camo put on by the manufacturer. If I want to camo something out comes the krylon paint and stencils. Does it help? Possibly. It doesn't hurt and I like the way it looks. If someone wants to pay the extra money and have it done by the manufacturer it's not gonna hurt or affect me. That's the nice thing about living in a free country where we can make choices as to how we spend our money.

I'm looking at buying a pump shotty. I was looking at the Supernova, and was wondering if the Realtree camo actually makes a difference. I'll be using this primarily for waterfowl.

I like the look of the camo, but if there is no real advantage to having it, I can't justify spending the extra money for it.

Thanks

It's like women and whiskey - everyone has their own preferences. If you have to ask if it's worth it, it's probably not.
