Is Federal 308 GMM grossly overrated?

With the last 3 rifles I have purchased in 308 I have first tried GMM 308 to use as a benchmark before reloading my own ammo. For initial shooting I have also used other cheaper pre-rolled ammo primarily to determine what bullet weight the rifle prefers.

The federal GMM I have used is 175 and 168gr. It has been from different lots purchased by me over time.

All 3 rifles have 1:10 rifling with the two bolt guns having a 20” tube and the gas gun an 18 1/2”.

With all 3 rifles I found both weights of GMM to be worse than ... unbelievably ....American Eagle and Hornady’s american gunner. And with my gas gun PPU and PMC Bronze were surprisingly pretty good too.

Today firing a new to me Savage 10TR 20” tube 1:10 rifle at an indoor range off a bipod both loadings of GMM gave groups that I consider to be unacceptable being 3/4” to 1” at 50M. These groups were fired slowly with about a two to 3 minute wait between groups given the barrel a chance to cool.

Unbelievably American Eagle was putting 3 rounds through the same hole consistently. I fired just over 40 rounds of the AE as I just could not beleive it. And this was through what I would consider to be a very hot barrel as touching it was uncomfortable. Between groups I would just reload the magazine and then fire the next group.

Granted before going to the range I did re-seat the American Eagle rounds to the exact AOL and did recrimp with a FCD.

Anyone else having this sort of experience?

I think I have purchased my last boxes of GMM.
