Hey everyone, My LGS has a Remington 700 SPS in 30-06 available for $699.

I'd be curious to hear some of your thoughts on this. I did a quick scan online, and the prices out there are all over the place.

Curious if this is a good deal or not, Or if i should just keep looking.

Yes, a reasonable price for that.

Then, ditch the synthetic stock for a wood one & you'll have something. ;)

The price is IMHO very fair and the cartridge is excellent for any game animal in North America.

May not be as ###y as some of the newer offerings but if you hand load or are going to start, the cases are readily available as are a wide variety of bullets/powder etc that all work very well and can duplicate or exceed the performance of a lot of the more recently popular offerings.

Commercial cartridges are available at all big box stores and local gun shops in different bullet weights and quality loads.

If that rifle comes with rings and bases, bonus.

That adds another $100 or more to the price, so not as an attractive price, but wood soaks up the recoil nice though, and looks much better

A little more than a $100 from Stockys but worth it I think.

I'd rather have a Model 700 over a Ruger American or Savage or anything else in that price range. I'd go for it if I wanted a .30-06. I just bought an SPS Compact in .243 new-old-stock, no regrets. Excellent rifles.
