I bought a box of surplus .303 on the weekend and I am wondering it it's corrosive. The box had duct-tape on it but I could make out the following on the side: H 3292, Mk 7, Broad arrow, I.S.A.A. There were 32 rounds in the box. Thanks in advance for the help.

Regards,

Nick

Mk VII ammo is fabulous stuff. Probably corrosive, but that's no big deal. Just clean accordingly, by rinsing the bore with hot water then clean as per normal. Oddly, the CF used it for eons, cleaning with nothing but motor oil, with no corrosion issues.

You mention cleaning the barrel with hot water after using corrosive ammo. I have never used any water on any of my gun barrels, I always used oil, fluid film, or OMC 6-in-1. Squirted a bit in the barrel then cleaned it out. Is hot water only to be used on corrosive ammo? Also how exactly is it corrosive, the burning residue is acidic and will pit the bore?

corrosive ammo leaves salts in your gun in the form of residue when it burns. the salt attracts moisture from the air, bingo! salt water in your gun, never a good thing! I know putting water in your gun sounds odd, but the best way to dilute salt water, is by flushing it out with with boiling hot water. it dissolves the salt and it all pours out your gun. then be sure to clean and oil like always k.

p.s. there are meny different ideas on cleaning corrosive,(try a surch and see) this is what I use and it works for me. I make no claims beond that.
