Is it illegal to simply own a 17 round glock mag?

Serious question - I have some old Glock mags back in the UK. Full capacity 9mm/45/10mm. How easy is it to bring them over and get them pinned?

Logistical nighmare?

Yes you can get 17 rounder limited at ten. I bought them like that from Sporteque. With à tool you can modify mag, but it's illegal.....

Is that a factory 17 round Glock magazine that has been modified after the fact or is it the factory modded Glock 10 rounder?

It's really not worth the trouble (even without with the cost of a lawyer taken into account).

Brand new ten-round capacity magazines are available from Brownells @US$$34.99 (PLUS TAX) retail/US$27.96 (PLUS TAX) wholesale, and from Sporteque @C$40.24 (TAX INCLUDED) retail.

Thanks - I guessed as much. I'll just keep 'em as a reminder of past times (or in case the restriction gets lifted ;) )

What you may be able to do, and dont quote me on this as its just my opinion that has not been reseached in any way, would be to order the 17 round mag to blaine, go down to get it and while you are there either get it pinned or bring a rivet gun and pin it yourself. Then declare it with whatever paperwork is needed and come on home.

Again, no idea if that is legal, just a thought that popped into my head that might be something you can look into if the price difference is really that high
Just to clarify, what you are proposing is a violation of US federal law.
Never proposed it. Like I said, it was a thought that popped in there that I did absolutely no research on. It was a suggestion of something to look into to see if it was legal. But it looks like you looked into it and its illegal, so no point in him wasting time. Thats why I love this site, lots of people that do know these things :)

moosedude - and you too randas - if you two would read the CGN General Rules and Guidelines, so will you.

My mags for my CZ75 seem to be permanently pinned at 10 (16rd US capacity), where the metal is riveted... I didn't know that some other mags could actually be changed over, for those who were willing to break the law. I though the permanent 'frankenpin/rivet' (like mine) was the rule.

Would that pinning need a 'certificate of proof' or can anyone pin it? EVERYTHING needs a certificate/licence in th UK!

Hey dude, I thought the UK didn't even allow handguns for civilians. Is that just another misconception like the myth that Canada is excessively regulated and essentially gun free (compared to the US)?

They have to be pinned before import, and would likely be checked at customs as to their legality.

They would never make it here, unpinned, and if by chance they did you could be in some deep doo doo. In such a case you could just pin them yourself, nobody would ever know.

Mags don't require any certificates here. Only guns.

I hear this all the time, "Handguns are prohibited in Canada". That's what you think. I have a bunch. Sorry. Living in a border town, I speak to many american visitors and they think we are unarmed here. Not the case. Just more regulated.

And, NO, you can't legally own a high capacity mag that isn't pinned to 10. End of thread. We can wish, but that's about it. Only the criminals have the 15+ round mags.

Like I said "Declare it with whatever paperwork is needed" That would include and export permit. Bottom line, it sounds like the hassle isnt worth it. Buy the pinned mags from one of the site sponsers and save yourself the headache. An extra $200 is worth the convienience and safety under the law.

Sorry if my post was misinterpreted, as I was not trying to:stirthepot2: or suggest breaking any laws

Nope, that's true - they don't. They were banned in the late 90's. My mags are pre-ban. So are a couple of holsters and bits n pieces. You never know when you might need them!! ;)

Huh! I still had it wrong. I thought the UK has never allowed handguns. I grew up in the 60s hearing about how not even British police carried guns and just assumed that the entire country has always been gun free.

Actually, if you do a little searching, there is a video about it and the horrible things that happened to the guns. It includes olympic shooters talking about having to leave the country to practice

Dude, thanx. I phoned them and these are modded after the fact (as opposed to the factory produced 10 rounders). You can also get the 19 rounder that has been modded.
