as a 'new' gun (post C68) it couldn't be imported if it was a prohib. There are no new prohibs allowed in the country, with the exception of guns for government use.

I liked the 5 Seven for a while and wanted one. In the end, after some research, a .22 magnum is close to the same round (ballistically) at a much cheaper price. The 5 Seven costs a fortune to shoot. Fn does not support reloaded ammo..

They do not advise using reloads (liability issues) thats all...feel free to reload, most manufacturers do not support reloading for legal reasons.

All that said, if you can find Brass it isn't that bad a round to reload, and isn't too expensive if that's the plan.

FN seems to be particularily negative about using reloaded ammo in their guns. There have been a couple of stories of warranty being rejected because the customer admitted to using reloads. Granted.. They were posted here and may not be %100 true.

What really turned me off was the lack of information and people reloading for them. I like to share and double check my loads with other people, and I just couldn't find anyone else reloading for it. For me, that was a deal killer as reloading is the only way I could afford to shoot it.

It was a catch 22 for me.. I wanted a gun that was unique, but it was the uniqueness that sunk it for me.

I will probably end up buying something chambered in .22 Magnum instead. Like I said earlier, balistically its almost the same. Only drawback is the rimmed cartridge. The 5 Seven is a center fire and more reliable.

The calibre is also used in the PS90 too. Also resticted unless you rebbl it to a longer, non-restricted bbl.

A buddy has the five seven. It's fun. No recoil and has a good size muzzle blast. It's a fun little gun and his was damn accurate. He said finding ammo was a little bit of a challenge. He was also unable to find any reolading dies etc. Again this is not my personal experience except for the 1 mag I ran through his gun. Ymmv

And its legal, but its prohibited?? how does that make any sense?

Just so you know, it is illegal to own ANY firearm in Canada. Having a licence simply prevents the courts from convicting you of the criminal code offence it is considered to be. So it is quite the opposite of what you say.
