Is it legal to transport loaded mags

Use your common sense, we know that this gov't doesn't have any.
Heck they have you looking down the barrel to check on obstructions.. If you do this in the Canadian military it is an auto court-martial -- this is what I have been informed.

Nope I was told what Joe-nwt and calum are pointing out. BTW.. My instructor was ex-RCMP.

Sorry, but the last sentence pretty much means I will discount the source.

The vast majority of LEO's know little to nothing of the actual firearms regs, not trying to insult anyone, just going by years and years of experience. - dan

I won't go as far as to say being a member of the RCMP makes you an imbecile about firearms and Canadian law. However, i tend to find a disturbing air of unwarranted authority from some on the issue.

I usually drive around in the bush with my rifles on the seat beside me and the loaded mags in the cupholder. I've been stopped twice by the NROs without incident.

I suspect your experience would be different in Southern Ontario. :)

Legally you can drive around with an unloaded non-restricted firearm on your passenger seat since it only has to be out of site or locked away when you leave the vehicle unattended. I laughed when my safety instructor told me that. I imagine one of those Stoeger 12-gauge double barrelled coach guns laying on the passenger seat would make your next RIDE checkpoint stop much more exciting for all involved.

this is quite common during hunting season to see people driving around with shotguns/rifles on the seat beside them. I continue to go from place to place while hunting in this fashion. I have pulled up to cops (this past season) and not been asked a single question about my shotgun from the cop. Maybe cause i was dressed in blaze orange, he knew why it was there. my location was about 1/2 hour south of orillia
