Is it normal for an M14 receiver to have no markings?

hi guys,

I'm looking at pics of an M14 that someone wants to sell, and I've notcied that the face of the receiver is missing its serial number and factory markings. I'm told the manufacturer is Federal Ordinance.

does this make any sense to anyone? can anyone tell me if they've encountered this in the past??

for the time being, I've suggested that the seller pull the receiver assembly from the stock, and send me additional pics.

thanks in advance for your help/insight...

I would ask Hungry and others in the M14 world how good those Fed Ord receivers might be...from what I've heard, nothing is as good as the Norinco receiver.

Hey, if it's cheap enough and otherwise has USGI parts on it like the bolt, barrel etc...maybe buy it and a Norinco and do some swapping...

type in 'fed ord receivers" in yahoo or google, and see what's there- you'll be running the OTHER WAY

Heres my mystery chicom m14. It has no markings on it anywhere other than these numbers on the side of the reciever. They look more like a date than serial numbers. See if the one you want to buy has this as well.

It shoots great never had a problem accurate as hell

that cute little notch as you call it matches the connecting rod that goes back to the selector on my isreali c/a - you just don't have the extra "bits"

Fed Ordnance made sub-par M1A's out of chinese parts, it's a chinese receiver. It's basically a $399 Nork M14s......except the M14s is a better made rifle.
