Is it possible to convert my Remington 700 to detachable magazine?

I got a decent deal on my 700 last fall at Ellwood Epps, I really wanted detachable magazine, but at the time they had no black synthetic stainless steel with detach. so I settled for the drop mag. After some shooting, the drop mag is a total pain in the neck.

My question is; without changing the stock, and hopefully using remington parts. Can I convert the rifle from drop to detachable mags?

Easiest is the Quik Klip; from there there's Wyatt, HS Precision and any number of aftermarket bottom metal assemblies that take A.I. mags.

You may find it cheaper to sell it and buy what you want.

Yes... if you are a shooter, go ahead... if you are a hunter, stick with the hinged floorplate... IMO.

I've been doing some research on this for some time as well. The Quik Klip uses a proprietary mag. They say it's a drop-in fit but other have found out that some small inletting was required.

PTG makes a drop-in DBM system that takes AICS single stack mags but again, some folks found out that it was not a true drop-in fit. PTG was supposed to come out with a revised model that was more of a true drop-in fit but haven't heard anything on this yet.

Wyatt is in the same boat, as in not always a true drop-in fit but folks have said that it's the closest to a true drop-in. Not sure what mags they take but it's a single stack. 10rnd mags can get pretty long if shooting off a bench.

The drawback to the drop-in systems is that they have shorter OAL ammo lengths if your ammo happens to be pretty long. No issues with factory ammo.

Right now I just handfeed so a hinged mag doesn't bother me but eventually I might do some courses etc and they recommended using a rifle with a DMB system.

I came to the conclusion that since all these drop-in kits require some kind of inletting, I might as well just go all out for an M5 system.

Converting your rifle to use the Remington DBM system would require significant work. The stock would need to be altered, and the area of the receiver where the magazine fits would need to be milled out. I retrofitted a DBM system to a standard receiver, and it works well. But it does involve a milling machine.
I use a PT&G mag. housing/trigger guard that accepts AICS type magazines on my competition rifle. Extensive inletting is required. Maybe PT&G has others that are closer to drop-in.
HS Precision has a drop-in system.

The easy way is the KWIK KLIP system and Cheapest also around 150-175 $$ canadian for it ! RJ

I converted my wife's 260 ls mountain rifle to the Rem Dm system and didn't have to alter the receiver at all-just the stock. I feeds great. I don't think you can cut out the synthetic stock like the laminated one you would likely have to get the synthetic stock made for that application.

What caliber is the rifle? As long as you can buy a 700 magazine for your caliber, you can just buy a dbm trigger guard and notch the stock with a dremel, I've done this several times, works awesome and the Remington 700 dbm is a nice unit, and everything will look factory

No feeding issues doing it this way?, I thought that's why you need to mill the receiver.

The Kwik Klip setup feels pretty cheap.

No feeding issues, you may need to sand the stock a bit around the trigger guard so it doesn't pinch, but it feeds just like any other remington 700dbm

Send me your address and Ill send you a stock with dbm set up, original factory rem.

ALSO

PTG has a drop in that takes AI center feed mags, I have a set.

BUT

either option may not work without machining the feed rails off of your current receiver.
On the Remington 700 w/ Detachable mag, the "feed rails" are the mag lips. If you were to put a standard BDL floorplate, follower, mag box, etc into a detachable mag receiver, the follower would pop out through the top of the receiver because there are no rails to hold it in place.
For you to put a detachable mag into a standard receiver, you might have interference between the mag and the feed rails in the receiver.

I've looked at DBM options for my XCR TLR 223. It's for sale, but if I keep it, I thought I'd try the PTG or Atlasworx bottom metal with AICS magazines. I had hoped to find something with both 5 and 10 round mags, but looks like only 10 rounders are available for the .223. I'm hoping they required minimal inletting.

Does anyone in Canada sell PTG? Or do they ship to Canada?

Looking at PTG, they list their short action as working with 308 5 round or 10 round AICS. They don't show it for the 223 single stack AICS mags.

edit I do see a kit listed, but at $340.00 seems a little steep. They don't even give any details whether that includes a magazine or not.

For a hunting rifle the after market Kwik Klip works very well. It usually requires a little inletting to install. The magazine is very reliable, better than the 700 factory one in my opinion.
