Okay, so polished the appropriate parts on my SKS and the trigger is now actually pretty smooth and nice to shoot, except it's got a damn LONG pull. Is there any way to actually shorten a trigger pull? And please no "buy a real gun" stuff. Thanks in advance.

I don't think so. You can lighten it with a new hammer spring, you can remove the grittiness by lapping the sear but given the design of the trigger group I don't see how you could shorten the trigger pull.

Although not really shortening the pull you can make it seem less by drilling and tapping and putting a set screw in the back of the trigger guard and setting the "Over travel".

I'd say no.
The long trigger pull is a safety feature built into this rifle.

Some thoughts...

BTW if you want to see if your Magnum shooting friends have flinches that they don't know of, let them try your SKS.

Usually with the longer then usual trigger pull they will drop the muzzle a bit just before the rifle fires. :D

Thanks Calum. I ordered surplusrifle.com's two disk CD set (which i reccomend to anyone with milsurps)as I have a few milsurps now, but I didn't see this article on actually modifying your trigger. I had just done a "polish" job with fine steel wool, which did help noticeably, but still leaves with the longest trigger pull of any rifle I know. For now I'll leave it as it's hunting season tomorrow in the Yukon, but I'll probably pull it all apart this winter and see what I want to do with my trigger group.
