Just got myself Valentine's day present. I was walking by that gun for about 3 months and today she bought it - was conditioned though that she will get to shoot it too which I do not object.

Questshn: can I dry-fire this thing? I kinda got into habbit practicing in my basement in standing position, who knows I may try competing someday in three position. Manual daesn't say anything about dry-firing, I wonder if anybody knows for sure if its safe.

According to Savage the mk 2 has a firing pin stop to prevent peening from dryfiring. However a quick search at rfc brought up a few guys who have had issues caused by dryfiring.

If you are worried about damage from dryfiring then do what I do. Load a spent cartridge or a snap cap into the chamber and dryfire away.

I tried just that - loadin spent case. That damn thing shot-expanded so that it wouldn't chamber all the way in. I had to use nife and needlenose pliers to get it out. I think I am getin myself action proovin dummy. Thanks for the advise tho.

Beautiful rifle by the way, came to me with the scope, nothiung to stop me from gettin some more work done on that van tomorrow, rain or shine.

Snap caps are an option. If you put some nail polish or a little paint from a pen where the firing pin 'would' hit and giver a go you'll be able to see if it is actually being stopped by the stopper thingy or travelling far enough to be a problem. I'd put a dollar on 'its okay'

You can also easily pull out the bolt and using a little strength and caution set the firing pin forward... you'll have to 'recock' it to reinstall, but you'll have a definite picture of where the pin is during 'fire'.

Wobbles, do you have an links for this? I've tried searching at Savage and at RFC and haven't been able to find anything. I swear, RFC has the worst search engine.....:bangHead:
