I am going to shoot trap and was wondering if its worth it to save hulls. I don't reload so they are no good to me. I shoot 12ga AA in 2 3/4 and gun club in the same.If I save them what are they worth? Like 5 cents or 10 cents each?
Winchester AA's might be worth a slight bit more, but our gun club throws them all in the dumpster, not worth the effort to save unless for yourself, because anyone who wants them can pretty much approach a club and get all they want. At least around here.
AAs are worth keeping IMHO. If you are loading, you can taylor a load that suits your needs. I'd say that the market prices for 12ga is $.05 which is $12.50/case that you can get back.
Five cents for a 12 gauge AA hull is a reasonable price but the problem is finding someone who will buy them. There is a lot less reloading going on these days when Remington Gun Club, Federal Top Gun and Winchester Super Target are all selling at prices that make it uneconomical to reload 12 gauge.
There was a time not all that long ago that if a shooter wasn't keeping his AA hulls they didn't bounce twice because someone would pick them up. With fewer people reloading it's not unusual to find all sorts of good hulls on the ground. That also means fewer people willing to buy them.
with the scarcity and cost of lead shot and the cost of primers and powder compared to the low cost of a flat of discounted ammo sometimes around $40 - $45 i've found in the last few years it's not worth your time reloading 12 ga unless you want to custom tailor a load. Still worth it for .410 however
I started with the same idea but it's hard to beat Wal-Mart for regular old 12 GA, 2-3/4", #7-1/2 trap rounds (100 for $22, tax included). Can't even reload that cheaply. I keep some components and a single Lee Loader in the back of the cupboard for a rainy day though.
This thread is interesting.. I have a hockey duffle bag full of 12g hulls. My wife always asks me when I'm going to get rid of it. I guess not any time soon.
Nickel a piece is good. Put a $-sale on the club bulletin board. Count 'em out in hundreds & bag 'em up. Sell a dozen or so bags - another flat of factory stuff for you !
