Hi all ,another new guy to long distance shooting here who's stuck on what scope to get. I'm getting a Remington 700 5R bedded into an adjustable HS precision stock plus other fine tuning .I'm all set to do my own reloading for consistent accuracy which will come over time ,only thing I'm hesitating about is the scope . The first one I've got my mind set on is the Nightforce 5.5-22x56 ,really pricy at about +-$2k give or take a couple 100 plus it comes with a wait till it shows up( im not in a hurry) .Pretty much the same price as my rifle is going to be . I'm doubting whether I need something that good .I am a new distance shooter but I'm more then willing to put in the hours of fun to get a lot better .I was looking at the Trijicon Accupoint 5-20x50 on the internet today for about half the price and this is what put all the doubt in my head . Is it worth paying more up front ? Id hate to pay for the accupoint now then find out soon down the road I shouldve gone the more expensive route .Just like some advise from some seasoned shooters about pros and cons . Thanks for it in advance

Zulu, I have had my share of optics, and can tell you unequivocally that it is absolutely worth the wait and worth going with the night force. After spending several hours looking through a scope your eyes will thank you for buying a night force. In addition, they are rugged, repeatable, and have the adjustment range you will need. I use that scope on several 22's as well as on 308's and 300 wm's It's a great scope.

I have two NF NXS and agree 100% with the comments above. I also have two Sightron ( very good but not IMO as good ) and a whole bunch of Elite 4200/6500's ( excellent value but a step down of course ). My take away message is buy the very best you can afford even if it means saving up/waiting awhile.

Thanks for the input all ,its another few 6 12 hr days in the near future for me haha . It'll be worth it in the end . Thanks for the reassurance .

I would buy something used off the exchange (if your gun is ready to go) and then re-sell when you have saved up some additional funds and then buy the NF. You shouldn't loose much $ if you buy used and take care of it. The best thing is you can enjoy your firearm now. I bought a used 6500 Tactical that was in great shape and excpect I can sell for what I paid (less shipping) and use it for 12-months.

The Trijicon has decent glass but only 1/2 the elevation that the NF 5.5x22 has. If the plan is to shoot longer distances elevation in the scope is important to have.
The reticle choice in the Trijicon is not as good in my opinion either. Gob-dots or thick posts are just not the best for precision shooting.
We sell both so come by and look through both, I think you will see the differences quite clearly.
