Is lead shot banned for hunting waterfowl across Canada ? How about North America?

Edit: woops I was wrong down below.

******I would recommend you read the regs because unless it is a misprint, the regulations don't agree with you. You must use non toxic shot for all migratory game.

Check with Environment Canada. If I find a link, I'll post it.
Edit, Here you go:

Question: Is it true that I must use non-toxic shot when hunting migratory game birds?

Answer: Yes. Since September 1, 1999, the possession or use of lead shot while hunting most migratory game birds has been banned in all areas in Canada. However, there are a few specific instances where lead shot can still be used, including: hunting murres in Newfoundland and Labrador; hunting Woodcock and Band-tailed Pigeons; and hunting Mourning Doves, except for Ontario where non-toxic shot must be used. It should also be noted that in National Wildlife Areas that allow hunting, the possession of lead shot is prohibited for all hunting, including the hunting of migratory birds and upland birds.

I'm one of the minority that would like to see non-toxic shot only for all wing shooting. I've been using steel for upland for years and it has zero drawbacks, I went in expecting a reduction in performance, and if anything I'm hitting better just due to practice. We own land I've let a couple people hunt and one thing I request is non-toxic shot.

Hi Guys

My question reiterates the title of my post. Is hunting with lead shot banned for waterfowl all across Canada? How about North America? Do most states ban the use of lead shot? Furthermore, is it allowed for game birds in Canada and the United-States?

Thanks

Lewis

Is this a trick question?
If one to where to perhaps quickly skim the province in which they reside in they would find the answer as about as quick as they found here....
Best Regards,
Rob

Steel can richot much easier. It doesn't travel as far and it's not as dense, doesn't penetrate as well. The other types of non toxic shot are grossly expensive that most cannot afford it.

Discussed this a few times with wardens and woodcock is still good to hunt with lead based on older regs that have not changed however any newly introduced migratory game birds are highly probable such as dove to be non-toxic.

Provincial, State, Municipal, etc., governments can set their own laws as long as they don't undermine those set by the higher entity. I.e. - Federal law says you can hunt doves with lead shot, but Ontario provincial law says you can't. Just like Provincial hunting zones/WMU's contain municipalities where discharging a firearm is illegal.
