Hello i have this lee enfield. i do not know much about it but it shoots well. it has the wooden case. it seams to be british. the serial number matches the magazine, rifle and the wood.on the scope mount two serial numbers are lined out then the rifle serial number is there. on the steel band by the trigger it says "M4 7 , i think, then 1943 underneath. then the serial number AF08XX. underneath that it says FMR than TR. im not sure how to post pictures in this post. if anyone could do it for me that would be great.

here is a link to the pictures i just took
thank you for any help you can give me.http://community.webshots.com/user/jaygts

Nice rifle by the way! Worth a few bucks now!

I am sure the Enfield experts will be along to give it a rundown. The scope is correct for a factory Enfield sniper, I know that much.

What you have is a 1943 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (Mfg by BSA Shirley - M47c) c/w matching Model No.32 Mk.3 Scope (Mfg by Taylor-Hobson & Co.)

For comparison with lots of details on it's heritage and to view a 130 picture photo montage of a sister rifle made in 1944, that saw actual service with "4 Commando" in WW11, check the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12 for this entry:

1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (click here)

I would guess that if she's matched and marked "all correct" as per the one in the MKL, plus complete with transit chest and matching scope can, the value is somewhere north of $3,800 Cdn depending upon the time of year and Canadian market demand for them when you run the advertisement. It might even go higher at auction (with a great photo spread), as I haven't seen very many good quality examples of these advertised lately.

BTW, the England marking indicates she was "exported" from the U.K. for sale.

Hope this helps... :)

Badger

I cant remember how i met the guy i bought it off. it was probably a gun show. he had another rifle i wanted. i remember picking them up because we both watched the twin towers fall on his tv. i didnt want it so it was registered to my father. i figured because its not canadian and not in perfect condition it would not be worth as much.
thank you for any info you can give me. i am starting to get interested in service rifle shooting and collecting.

I have one more lee enfield. a man walked into my old work about 8 years ago. we got on the topic and he asked if i wanted to buy a rifle. he said he use to be an engineer at the
Long Branch? rifle factory in Toronto. he had alot of stories about working there during the war. he had full size drawings from the department he was in. well he had one of the guys make him a rifle and it sat in his closit since 1943. he sold it to me cheap and gave me some other stuff soo i know it was a real story. i registered that one to myself:)

Hey Jaygt,

You have to understand why your story is, at least for some of us, hard to believe. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure all your stories are legitimate, but... This is material right out of the best stories ever. Those of us who collect Enfields, or have an interest in these, visit gunshows, spend time on forums, never, never get to see those stories in front of us. We see tons of sporterized rifles, meet people who have junk and think is worth thousands. Your story is the total opposite... hence the "hard to believe" aspect.

Tell us more, post pics... thanks!

Lou

this weekend i will take pictures of the unfired Lee Enfield i have. the guy at the factory never put the front top wood on. . im not sure why but that is how it was given to him back in 1943. my father trys to get me to put one on but i dont think its right. he was a real nice guy and even gave me his old bb gun from when he was a kid still in the original box. he had told me if he found the full size drawings from his department he was going to bring them into me. that didnt happen. the rifle did not have a serial number so i had to get the sticker.
this is the only Lee Enfield i own. i am looking to buy another one so i dont have to shoot this one. did they make them in 7.62 ?

Jay- assuming you're not pulling the collective leg a trifle, you've got some very interesting items there. I hope you'll treasure them as you've been given some great things to hold on to, think of yourself as a custodian of some history and take it seriously.
We need pics.....good clear, close up ones too...you should learn how to post them in your post, takes a little learning but it's worth it.

(what a great smiley that is!)

I will be honest i have not really looked at my rifles in the last 7 years. i now have a new interest in them and would like to get involved with the sport. at the time i bought these i didnt have an interest in bolt action rifles. now i do.
when i read about the brit sniper rifle i think it said 23000 made so i figured i wasnt worth that much. the canadian made one looks like the one to have.

the 2nd post are pics of the rifle

Jay you gotta be F_ _King kidding! If this is true I do hate you :D
...Not worth as much because its not Canadian? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let me guess you also have a confederate marked enfield in the basement next to your lee enfield no iv trials rifle too.

good grief

let me guess you also have a problem with people just giving you money at random.......and someone also gave you a british 7.62 enfield but that isn't worth anything either due to the fact the stock doesn't look origional ......:bangHead::bangHead::bangHead::bangHead::bangHead::bangHead::bangHead::bangHead::bangHead::bangHead:

Seriously if this story is true ...........the rifle with some checking is probably closer to 3 grand
good on ya
you have two pieces of history there treasure them, I would literally give my eye teeth for one

It's a fake jaygt ..they are all here trying to make you feel better:p
What you need is a nice tasco scoped lee-enfield to go hunting with instead of this old WWII garbage.

I'll give ya $200 just because you're new here on the forum to start your new collection ;)
