The M-14 rifle, like the M1 Garand, was designed for 150gr bullets.
It is my understanding that many reasonably knowledgeable individuals strongly discourage the use of ammunition with different pressure curves (when compared to M118) or with a projectile heavier than 168gr.
So I wouldn't.
The concern, I understand, is with the tuning of the gas system. If one had to - I mean really had to - use heavy ammunition, one could first turn the turn the spindle valve to the closed position, making the rifle a manually-operated repeater, and perhaps avoiding these issues.
