Is prvi patrizan .308 safe to fire in an M14?

The M-14 rifle, like the M1 Garand, was designed for 150gr bullets.
It is my understanding that many reasonably knowledgeable individuals strongly discourage the use of ammunition with different pressure curves (when compared to M118) or with a projectile heavier than 168gr.
So I wouldn't.
The concern, I understand, is with the tuning of the gas system. If one had to - I mean really had to - use heavy ammunition, one could first turn the turn the spindle valve to the closed position, making the rifle a manually-operated repeater, and perhaps avoiding these issues.

I've got about 80 rounds of 180 grain cartridges, and I've fired off seven so far. So I figure that I will probably fire them all off and stick to 150 grainers from here on out.

"...like the M1 Garand, was designed for 150gr bullets..." The M1 was designed to use .30 M1 ammo with its 174.5 grain bullet. The 152 grain .30 M2 ammo didn't exist until 1939.
180's won't hurt your rifle. 165 grain hunting bullets will give you better accuracy and will kill any game you care to hunt.

I wouldn't. Prvi is pretty hot stuff in general, and using winchester 180 grainers in my Garand was a mistake. It damned near tore the rims off the rounds by the time the barrel warmed up. Never again.

I actually made a telephone call to Springfield Armory about two years ago and asked them directly whether I could use 180 grain ammo in a WW2 era M1 Garand. I was told that at no time should I ever use any ammo heavier than 150 grain in my rifle for risk of damaging the gas system. I took the advice and have never used anything heavier than 150 grain. I have used 147 grain Winchester target ammo and it was great! I hope my comment helps.
