Just wondering if reloading 7.62x39 worth it? If so what cost per round are you getting and where are you getting brass and projectiles? Thanks for any info

Eggbert What are you hoping to achieve?? You can buy 7.62x39 ammo cheaper than you can reload. I don't think reloading for most of the AK47's is worth the effort. However if you have a bolt action rifle it is a different story. I have a Savage model 11 in 7.62x39. It has a .308 bore instead of a .311". Ruger made their rifles with 308 bores while CZ and others made their's with .311 bores. There are 125-130 gr bullets in 308 and 311 diam from Hornady and sierra as well as others. In a bolt action 125/130 gr bullets and 150 gr bullets can be driven to velocities very close to 30-30 velocities. This makes a lightweight rifle with approx. 30-30 ballistics with minimal recoil. Very suitable for a person of smaller stature to hunt deer with. In that situation it is very worthwhile to reload. Brass is available from several locations. I picked up several bags of PPU brass from Tradex. Very good brass and a fair price.

I like reloading x39 but for cast just like shooting cast bullets with unique and still cycles action in sks,, but not cost effective at all sitting on 5000 rounds of surplus and never paid more than 199 for 1500..i just like reloading

Yes it is worth loading.I load mostly for the CZ527 for med game like deer with anywhere from 123gr-150gr . IMR or H4198 is a great powder. Sierra .311 /150gr bullets are good for a heavy under 100 yards bushload for bear or moose if needed.I loaded some 123gr Barnes x bullets for a cow moose put ended up holding a .300 H+H when one walked out so bang. The only thing with the SKS is lost brass........Harold

If you want to reload for the SKS it's not economical. Not just because surplus ammo is cheap but because the action rips up brass cases. If it's for hunting, bolt actions or otherwise then it might be worth it. I'm not used to seeing it as a commercial hunting round, anyway, so you may want to reload for the customization you can achieve.

6lb carbine great for stalking bedding areas ,shooting out of tree stands and light for the driver pushing bush. I shot two big bodies WT AB bucks and never recovered either bullet. One dead within 50 yards and the other was heartless made it 10 paces. Cheap to load like a .223 at 25 grains.......etc The SKS isn't remotely hard on brass compared to an AK or HK91 and loves 150gr/.311 handloads Harold

Crazy thing with my CZ527 is 25gr /H4198/123gr SP/Privi brass a simple switch from LRP to mag shrunk groups to 1/2" from just under 1" even in that tiny case. Moose are not hard to kill with reasonable accuracy and penetration.Harold

Intend to diddle around with either 110gr FMJ /cast /or buckshot and pistol powder for a 20 yard grouse load this summer.......Harold
