Is shooting more than one division too much for a 1st timer?

I'm surfing IPSCBC's website and I didn't realize that there could be up to 20 stages. I was thinking of getting one gun to shoot Production and Standard but even if I find something that I'm happy with, are two divisions too much for one person to handle mentally/physically?

At the club level, it might be possible to shoot the match twice. At a bigger match, it would probably be logisticly impossible, as well as physically straining.

There is also the question of ethics and the rule book. I'm not sure if it's allowed, and if it was, I'm not sure it would be ethical.

One could argue that a competitor was getting a second attempt on each stage using the same gun and equipment.

your first attempt would be for score, your second for fun. if you could get the match director to allow you to do it. I think jerich needs to come out and see how a match is run so that he can understand it all a bit better.

Specifically not allowed under the rules

Actually it is specifically ALLOWED under the rules, see rule 6.2.4. As Slavex said, the first time would be for score, the second time for fun. It is at the Match Director's discretion whether a competitor is allowed to enter a match in more than one division or not. I have that exact scenario potentially happening this coming weekend at a Level II match where I am the MD. I'm going to allow someone to shoot a second time in another division IF we have someone drop out where the match has an extra slot available.

you can shoot different guns in different matches (different days) though and score in both divisions.

I was thinking about that the other day. I know you are required to shoot 2 matches a year in order to keep the black badge. would you need to shoot 2 for each division? could I shoot one production and one revolver match a year and still be ok? or would I need to shoot 2 with each to stay current?

I wanna sign up for the wait list for that.

No problem Dallas, if we have slots available you can do it. It's specifically for the ICS stages though (someone isn't sure which division they're going to shoot at Nationals so wants to be classified in both). If you want to have a go at the ICS stages a second time bring your extra gear just in case (and some cash too since there is an extra cost to doing it). No guarantee you'll get to do it but doesn't hurt to be prepared if that's what you want to do.

I did not see that, thanks for pointing it out. I don't see how participating in two divisions can be unethical though.

Nick

If you're talking about shooting the match twice in the same day, in two different divisions...unethical might be a bit strong...but unfair sounds about right.

It would be the equivalent of a practice run...

There are plenty of shooters that shoot in more than one division...just not at the same match

Thats right. for shooting everyone is usually just lumped together. when the scores are submitted to stats, the stats people (who need more beer bought for them) look after breaking everyone out into their repsective divisions and classes.

not unfair at all. as the rules tell us it will be the first run that is for score. the second one would be for fun.

gotcha, I figured you'd know that.
although that is apparently what's going to happen at the USA Nats this year. all of them (all Divisions) will be able to shoot all stages. Since the various divisions shoot different days, people will be able to shoot for practice, AND then for score. could be rumor, but that's what I've heard.
