Is Sweden changing from 5.56X45 to a new 6.5 round. Or was it just a line of S**t
?
I overheard part of a conversation on the weekend about Sweden changing the caliber of their standard combat rifle.
The guy was telling a group that Sweden was changing from the NATO 5.56X45 to a new 6.5 round.

there has been a lot of good results with the round, and many insiders are taking a hard look. I wouldn't be surprised.

Here's Sweden's new gas-operated, direct-impingement 6.5mm rifle:

Who cares what Sweden does.

Exactly. Regardless, they should cease production of all arms and just make a thousand or so rifles in a cartridge useless to the finns. Sweden can then send over these rifles as their big contribution for the next time the russians come knocking.

I think that a swap to something like the 6.5 Grendel would be a great improvement. It fits into the same size AR15 system, but dramatically extends out the effective range of that rifle.

Now that there is an improved bolt and barrel extension that will withstand quite a bit more pressure and have much greater durability than the standard AR15 style bolt/barrel extensions, many of the problems with the Grendel cartridge are eliminated.

IIRC, the heavy duty bolt/barrel extensions were the idea of ARperformance down in the states.

With my Grendels launching a 123 grain Lapua Scenar bullet at around 2500 FPS, that bullet doesn't begin going transonic until around 1300 meters. That is a tremendous improvement over the 55 grain 5.56x45 bullet going transonic around 600 meters.
