Is that any way to hold a pistol?

I was watching a shooting montage recently on YouTube, and I saw one fellow holding his automatic in what you would recognize as the "safe" position with his index (trigger) finger along the frame under the slide. However, his second finger was clearly on the trigger, ready to fire. Does anybody do this? I understand that the slide goes back with enough force to break his finger, but it looks as if the slide will work without engaging his trigger finger.

His left hand was in standard form, both thumbs aligned on the left.

Pretty curious.

I've done it from time to time with my 1911, my index finger is usually right below the slide, but there's nothing on the slide for my finger to catch on, Cant say if I shoot any better or any worse, I'll try it again tonight.

I helped teach a lady how to shoot like you describe, pointer finger under slide, up yours finger to work the trigger. Her pointer finger was froze in the point position and couldn't bend.

Makes sense. Lots of people injure or lose their index finger.

You can hold the slide closed with one hand while it fires.... if you ever needed to. Not sure it would break your fingers...

I saw that before on a defence video.

I have a Sig P229. Truth is, while I have never shot it with that grip, it feels better for my hand size.

Only one way to find out ....

You can also hold the slide closed with your thumb on the back of it, if necessary. Not that it would be a good technique for shooting paper.

^Yep, the forces involved aren't anywhere near where you'd think they are. I've held the slide closed on my Glock 9mm and my 1911 .45 acp, no problem. The action of the slide in motion won't break bones (will cut the web of your hand if held too high, but that's quite different.).
Anyone with a DE in .44 RemMag out there try this? Coonan .357? 460 Rowland? I wouldn't hesitate.(if I had the gun)
