Is the 10-22 really just a rimfire shooter's equivalent of the Toyota Corolla?

They are everywhere and they work fine. Nothing very exciting about them but lots of people buy them - and are happy with the purchase. Am I talking about Toyota Corollas or 10/22 rifles? Actually, both. To me the 10/22 is kinda the Canadian rimfire shooter's equivalent of the Corolla - say one of those beige ones with the fake alloy rim hub caps.

The 10/22 used to be a lot more interesting to own - when you could have high capacity mags but then Ruger messed-it-up by bringing-out the Charger pistol - and making a big deal about how the BX25 mag would work perfectly in both.

Too bad about that goof-up but it's even worse now because, presumably, Ruger is well on its way to making the same mistake AGAIN with its PC carbine - i.e. going out of its way to declare the Ruger pistol mag – and maybe Glock mags as “dual use mags”.

What is Ruger thinking? - saying “Interchangeable magazine wells for use of common Ruger® and Glock® magazines. Ships with SR-Series™ pistol magazine well installed and an additional magazine well accepting Glock® magazines is included”. Is Ruger trying to get Glock and SR-Series mags limited to 5 rounds?

I digress. So what about it? Is the 10/22 really just a rimfire shooter’s equivalent of a Toyota Corolla?

Not sure if it's the equivalent to a Corrola. And I will get tons of flack for saying this, but i have never in my life have required more than a 10 round mag for anything ever. I'm fine with it.

The only people i ever see using a 25 round or bigger mag is at the range who cant shoot worth a #### go PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW in rapid succession and miss the hell out of the target at 50 yards.

Useless and pointless. No skill whatsoever.

I shoot ALOT and only use 10 round mags in matches requiring 10 rounds.

Full Auto is useless as sh*t.. But it still fun.

Just for you...

If mag limits had anything to do with safety i could agree to disagree with poster two up.

It has nothing to do with safety, bureaucrats, leftist politicians, the appearance of safety. But mostly as a way to frustrate people from becoming and staying shooters. So dead wrong.....except for all the crimes carried out by 10/22 owners with 25 round mags....owe wait.

Just because you shoot fast, doesn't mean you cannot shoot. There are days I want to shoot fast, and days I want to make the tightest groups.

For sure I agree. Just probobly 95% of the time I see it done in person its noobs with no marksmanship skills or fundamentals yet. At the end of the day it's just for fun.

More like a civic hatch back.
With lame rims
Cheap stereo
And a useless spoiler.

I am not a 10/22 fan. Mainly because every retard blasting TVs or a dishwasher in a cut block has one. Or a mossberg 500.

You say they like it's a bad thing? People without elite marksmanship skills shouldn't be enjoying firearms?

Lol how many times a day do you tell your buddies that "only accurate guns are interesting"?

I think you should developed good trigger control and learn to shoot accurately first. And not develope bad habits early on.

Have fun sometimes? Sure...

Accurate guns and accurate shooting are not the same.

But out of those 95% of people, how many have you seen again? So based on what you said. I would be part of that 95%. But you don't see me the next day, shooting ragged holes and proving you wrong. So these 95%, may not be noobs, or may have marksmanship principals, and trigger control. You just seen them having fun.

You’ve obviously never had to shoot gophers out of necessity for your livelihood. I’ve worn out a Butler Creek loader and a few 25 round mags.
