Price and availability of ammo will hurt it, and Remington sucks at supporting cartridges they introduce (260 rem, 7mm & 300saum, 8mm Rem Mag, etc) The number of rifle models they make chambered in it in 2011 is way down from previous years
the 204 is cheap to shoot (compared to 17fb) and gives good ballistics. If 17fb was the same price as 204 ammo, and made by Hornady, Rem, Fed, Win........you'd see more interest.
I vote - death for 17fb, long term. Always gonna be a handloaders cartridge, just like its wildcat 17 Mach IV
