Is the 17 Rem Fireball gonna live?

I got one, fun cartridge. Fast and burns light powder charges
Price and availability of ammo will hurt it, and Remington sucks at supporting cartridges they introduce (260 rem, 7mm & 300saum, 8mm Rem Mag, etc) The number of rifle models they make chambered in it in 2011 is way down from previous years
the 204 is cheap to shoot (compared to 17fb) and gives good ballistics. If 17fb was the same price as 204 ammo, and made by Hornady, Rem, Fed, Win........you'd see more interest.
I vote - death for 17fb, long term. Always gonna be a handloaders cartridge, just like its wildcat 17 Mach IV

IIRC guys fab 221 Fireball out of an existing cartridge (.223 rem?) so this one is pretty much a sure thing to live on...
Sorry if I misled but I would reload for it. I was interested what thoughts were about this fading away in the sunset. If that were to happen, guns and gear would be hard to sell. Brass availability may become an issue. At this time, Wholesale is showing dies but no brass. Has anyone looked in forming from .223?
If Remington could produce ammo for $24 a box to compete with 204 Ruger, it has a chance. Who is interested in buying 17FB ammo @ $35/box????? Not everyone handloads, and if a cartridge is not successful with factory ammo shooters, it's destined to fail

It's just the .17 Mach IV, Remington just branded it as their own, been a wildcat for a very long time and a successful one. It is extremely simple to form, made from .221 Fireball brass and can be sized down in one pass, trimmed, and fireformed to perfection if desired. Easy peasy, and .221 brass isn't rare, .222 and .223 take a lot more work to form as you have to make a new shoulder, neck, and ream it
I was in wholesale in Saskatoon 3 wks ago They didn't have 204,260.375Ruger either
